The city of Fort Worth made the list of the 50 most desirable cities for buyers under 35. It ranked #36 on the list.

Why is Fort Worth becoming so popular with this age group❓❓❓

The suburban feel, the fact that most residents own their own homes, and the abundance of parks are reasons why these young professionals are flocking here!

Another childhood ornament. I *think* I made this one at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History preschool. To this day I have vivid memories of that wonderful place. The Museum School is still going! 🧵 Shown on a fringed ‘Chequers’ Dry-Me-Dry towel, woven in 13 colors between 1953 and 1959. __________________________

Game Schooling! I am head over feet excited about the new world history curriculum Becca from @fiddlesticks.education is creating. It was the perfect addition to our end of November tea time!
.
In keeping with our desire to honor Native American Heritage Month we explored the Zuni culture though a beautiful living story and culturally authentic game. It was fun to tie in some of our own Native American baskets and pottery we’ve collected from our travels as well.
.
You can shop this and all Becca’s beautiful things via the link in my bio. There’s a discount code as well 😉
.
Notes on our art:
.
The black and white earthenware vessel is an Acoma Pueblo seed jar. This was purchased from a national park site which offers consignment space to Native artisans.
.
The basket you see is still so fragrant! I often wonder when the sweet smell of the grass will fade but it has not yet. It was made by a Tohono O’Odham weaver and purchased in Arizona.
.
The little grey bowl is a pinch pot my daughter made at @fwmshmuseumschool
.
Her little doll was made by a very kind Hopi woman whom we had the pleasure of meeting at the Grand Canyon
.
Also we finished our chapter book about Squanto! Swipe to see our notebooking page. We follow @jodimockabee method and her guide is wonderful.

Here we are on a scavenger hunt for our science class zoom call. Yesterday was our last zoom call of the year and the day I was incredibly amused to realize my child is the child that causes her teachers to utilize the mute feature on zoom 😅. She’s gregarious, outgoing, and a notorious over sharer. Watching that in action was one of the funnies things I’ve seen in a long time. 🤣😅😂
.
One of the things that truly helped me affirm our choice to homeschool was our local science museum’s Museum School program. Our daughter attends classes there one day per week. The museum has resources I could never dream of obtaining like a vast taxidermy collection and collection of live animals. She’s learned so much from her 2 hours per week there and her love of nature has blossomed into a love of natural history. Leaning into community partnerships is a vital part of our homeschool - even during this time of social distancing. Surprisingly, science, extra curriculars, and technology have entered an unexpected union and museum school zoom calls have become the highlight of our quarantine. .
What extra curriculars does your child participate in? Are there any partnerships in your community that have become a key part of your school?

Today we had one of our most fun nature walks in quite a while! We took along the @the.silvan.reverie egg crate scavenger hunt and found several treasures to share with our friends at museum school on our zoom call tomorrow! We also saw turtles, geese, and a mother duck with her ducklings.

After days of looking at Native American dwellings with sign after sign declaring “we don’t know much about these people because the looters got here first,” we arrived here, a place I could not even count the pieces of pottery on display that had been taken from the site.
.
The site is an over 100 room Pueblo also built by the Sinagua. It was designated a monument by Theodore Roosevelt and crews immediately were organized to excavate and catalogue its contents.
.

Somewhat depressingly the Apache were enlisted to help. Despite digging up the site and handling its contents violating all Native American cultural norms many of them did so out of place of deep economic need.
.
At this point I seriously started to question within myself who should have access to artifacts and relics. And if that’s something you ever ponder I recommend the book “Finders Keepers” by Craig Childs. He succinctly summarizes the irony and insanity of the notion that American academia self appointed itself as the steward of Native culture - believing that these cultures had been effectively decimated and therefore should leave their relics, religion, and even their dead loved ones at the door on their way out to be “saved” by the very people who sought to eradicate their existence to begin with.
.

Also, I had no idea that the antiquities market was such a crazy and dangerous place. Indiana Jones movies make the drama look tame in comparison to reality. 😳 @ Tuzigoot National Monument

A sort of high rise apartment built by pre-Columbian society over 800 years ago - stunning.
.
Montezuma never lived here and this wasn’t built in his lifetime even. Just another example of white Europeans mis-naming things and never correcting the error.
.

Anyway, this is yet another Sinagua dwelling and it is something to behold. Surprisingly park rangers took people up into the structure until the 1950s when tours stopped to preserve the site.
.

Even just peering up at it and walking to the creek that was their water source makes you marvel increasingly at this culture. Around the time Notre Dame was completed in France the Sinagua completed their ongoing build of this site then left - both buildings still remain and I’m unable to say that this cliff dwelling is any less impressive than the cathedral. @ Montezuma Castle National Monument
