Yesterday my son Brandon helped me build a toddler mobility trainer (TMT). One of the steps when printing flexible material called Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) is removing the stringy hairs that look like spider webs on the printed parts.

The pushrims for the toddler mobility trainer (TMT) are printed out of TPU and at times produce stringing. Trying to remove the stringing by pulling or cutting it is not efficient. Instead we use a heat gun to sweep over the areas with strings to shrink them down to nothing.

[Video Description: In this video Brandon uses a heat gun to demonstrate how quick sweeps over the stringing on the printed TPU parts shrinks the hairs down to nothing and results in a nice clean part.]

Today is my 31st injury anniversary and I wanted to share some things I learned over the past year.

1. I don’t feel disabled. People in this world with their words and actions make me feel disabled.

2. I’m a professional sitter and I’m damn good at it!

3. Assistive technology is my passion.

4. Getting a colostomy was one of the best decisions I made for quality of life.

5. The disability community is filled with incredible people.

6. The journey is better when you take time to enjoy it and live in the moment.

Minimal hand function or just not wanting to break a nail for the 100th time, these can openers are so helpful!

Big thank you to Mark at @abilitease for making a cute color to match my fit 😍😏

Lately I’ve been working on a lot of different projects and sometimes it can get overwhelming. My ADHD brain wants to tackle everything, but it’s easy to fall behind.

Today I made some progress on a prototype that has been consuming a lot of my time. As I got excited the classic song “Ms. New Booty” from Bubba Sparxxx popped up on Spotify and I had to break out into a happy dance.

My kids will be embarrassed by this, but this is me. I love music and I like to dance…when no one is watching.😆

Life is way too short and I choose to enjoy these little wins when they come my way.

Today is the 30th anniversary of my spinal cord injury (SCI). Wow that sounds really weird to say. Where did all of that time go?

This year I struggled with my mental health. I never thought that would be me because living with a spinal cord injury teaches you how to deal with so many unpredictable and uncomfortable situations. You build a tougher skin to handle adversity. But this was something that I could not manage on my own and so I got help.

Once I accepted that my feelings were real and that it wasn’t anything to be ashamed of I was able to build myself back up again.

Living with a spinal cord injury isn’t easy and I’m one of the lucky ones. The SCI life will test you at every turn and knock you down just when you thought you were making progress. However, it’s this life that made me the person that I am today and achieved the life that I always wanted.

I’m at a place now where I can use the past 30 years of my journey to help improve the quality of life for others. I’m truly blessed to have my beautiful family and proud to be part of the disabled community. Life is good!
