🌺 Day One of APCG 2026 — Hilo, Hawaiʻi 🌺 We’re officially underway! Our first day in beautiful Hilo, Hawaiʻi, began with the Mōhalu Moon and a heartfelt Kīpaepae Welina ~ Welcoming Ceremony at Hawaiʻi Community College’s Manono Campus. From the Hawaiʻi Keynote to Huakaʻi ~ Excursions, the day was filled with learning, connection, place, and ʻike. 🌊🌴 And to close out the day, we’ll gather downtown at Hale Kanikapila for an optional evening of music, community, and aloha. 🎶 Mahalo to everyone who helped us begin APCG 2026 in such a meaningful way. We’re grateful to be here, together, in Hilo. 💛 #APCG2026 #APCG #HiloHawaii #Hawaii #Aloha

Honoring the legacy of Miss Jeanne Garrison, a 1953 charter member and Recording Secretary of the Los Angeles Geographical Society. Born in 1934, Jeanne pursued her passion for geography at UCLA, earning her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD. She went on to teach at El Camino College for 35 years—at a time when women in higher education were far too rare—also sharing her knowledge of geology, astronomy, and even fencing. A lifelong learner and community member, Jeanne was active in numerous organizations, including the California Retired Teachers Association, SWIM, Sierra Club, DAR, and AAUW—where the Dr. J. Jeanne Garrison Research Project Grant was established in her honor in 2002. She was passionate about education, genealogy, her family, and her favorite teams—the Dodgers and UCLA football. Jeanne also had a lifelong love for Doberman Pinschers, caring for ten over her lifetime—adopting her last, Sweetie, at age 97. Her impact on geography, education, and the LAGS community continues to inspire. #LAGS #GeographyLegacy #WomenInGeography #InMemoriam #GeographyCommunity ElCaminoCollege UCLA CapitolReef SouthernUtah
