Tonight’s event is in partnership with @scribevideocenter, @siftmedia215, @westphillypeacepark, The West Philly Food Sovereignty Project and @pentridgestation.

Instead of hosting ineffective and boring outreach events, we decided to host events at the intersections of urban agriculture, creativity, culture and community. We want as many eyes to be on the work of our growers, minds thinking about their place in the food system and ways they can be more active contributors without ever putting their hands in the dirt.

We are an agriculture hub that centers Black and Indigenous food systems development. We provide programming that fosters the holistic development of those working at the front lines of food systems work.

We also curate opportunities for mission and values aligned collaborations to include aggregation, marketing, funding, project development and thought partnership.

The West Philly Food Sovereignty Project is a community-led planning initiative focused on strengthening the food system in West and Southwest Philadelphia.

The project brings together growers, retailers, educators, residents, and community organizations to identify local food system assets, understand gaps and opportunities, and support the development of a more sustainable and locally rooted food economy.

@westphillypeacepark has been revolutionizing reclaiming land for community use for over 10 years starting in North and advanced in West Philadelphia. Op

BlackStar was everything and more than we could have dreamed!

On Thursday, August 6th, The Seeds We Carry premiered at the 15th annual BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia, PA. The film’s reception was outstanding, and we ended the festival winning 2 awards!!! The Philadelphia Filmmaker Award (juried award) and Favorite Short Documentary (audience award) 🏆🏆

The festival was a whirlwind four days filled with film screenings, engaging conversations, networking, and lots of reunions with old friends and colleagues. At the end of each day, I couldn’t wait to crash into bed. But with all the warmth and inspiration I was feeling from the festival experience, I didn’t want to leave Philadelphia and return home to Georgia once Monday arrived.

The Seeds We Carry is my first short film and first film to ever screen at a festival. As you can see in the video of me accepting the award at the Director Lunch, I was not expecting the film to win any awards. Screening at BlackStar was already a dream come true. I could not be happier with how BlackStar 2026 turned out, and I look forward to sharing the film with many more audiences over the next year.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible participants, creative and skilled crew members, and everyone who has been rooting for us along the way, providing moral, financial, and material support. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
❤️ Gabrielle
