POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As this exhibition comes to a close I am reflecting on its imprint.

This exhibition and reception was an incredibly special experience, centered around the theme of Soñadores — Dreamers. ✨

An opportunity to reflect on what dreams mean to us, how they are rooted in our heritage and culture, and how art inspires us to continue dreaming, growing, and evolving.

It was a delight to join a panel of fellow artists representing different countries, cultures, and artistic expressions, each sharing not only their work but also the meaningful stories behind their creations.

For me, one of the greatest gifts was seeing my mother witness her own mother’s and aunt’s portraits being shared beyond the walls of our home and into a show, where both of their stories and legacy could be seen and celebrated by others. A beautiful reminder that art has the power to preserve our memories, honor those who came before us, and connect generations.

I often wish I had more time with both of them, but I’ve come to believe that when someone leaves such a profound imprint on our lives, their love, energy, and spirit never truly leave us. They continue to live through our stories, our creativity, and the dreams we carry forward.

My hope is that their legacy, and the stories shared through this exhibition, inspire others to look beyond life’s challenges, recognize the possibilities ahead, and never stop dreaming. ❤️

Grateful to have been part of such a beautiful celebration of art, heritage, resilience, and the power of our stories.

Thank you to all who supported and shared in this beautiful memory. #soñadores #dreamers

Showcasing our soul through arts and culture ✨

As part of our commitment to expanding access and creating spaces where visual art, performance, and community converge, we embarked on an inspiring 12-hour Studio Visit journey across Houston.

By grounding our work in Community as a Source and Curiosity as a Method, we stepped inside the creative sanctuaries of four extraordinary artists shaping the U.S. Latino art landscape:

📍 Violette Bule @violettebule — Examining how power dynamics and architecture regulate everyday life, using water as a conceptual framework for memory, displacement, and transformation.

📍 Venessa Monokian @vmonokian — Investigating ideas about her environment that extend beyond the tangible to explore the psychological elements of space, where the viewer's physical interaction becomes integral to the art.

📍 Julia Barbosa Landois @jblandois — Uncovering profundity and absurdity in the everyday through upcycled materials, performance, and dialogues on bodily autonomy.

📍 Nela Garzón @minkstereo — Honoring ancestral legacies through slow, meditative fiber art and traditional crafts as living acts of cultural resistance.

An institution already at work bringing Latino arts and culture to the forefront.

➡️ Swipe through the carousel to step inside the studios!

Which artist's vision resonates most with you? Tell us in the comments! 👇

Artist Statement:
These works are part of an exploration of home as a sanctuary.
My grandfather was an immigrant in my homeland. He gave me the gift of infinite curiosity and taught me to have big dreams. Carrying that legacy, I became an immigrant myself.
Contrasting my childhood in Argentina with my later experience moving around the world has brought me an awareness I didn’t have in my younger years, making me realize how lives are deeply connected beyond time and borders.
As a Latina living in Houston, I often find myself navigating dualities between senses of identity, and the way memories, language, and inherited culture leave their marks, even in spaces where I feel in-between.
Through the canvas, soft pinks symbolize the warmth and tenderness of childhood memories, interacting with greens and blues that evoke the land and sky of the countryside where I grew up. Within this softness, bold shapes emerge, unapologetically vivid and grounded, representing the strength I summon to carve out space for myself and my family to feel safe, seen, and held, while remaining loyal to my Latino origins.
These paintings are maps of belonging, a visual echo of personal refuges, and an act of preservation.
