I posted about my neglected TBR and then immediately betrayed it. Whoops.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars

⚠️ Content warnings: rot and decay imagery, death of major characters, spice

I found this duology because @gagmewithagoodplot 's review stopped my scroll, and I am so glad it did. I opened Crown Me Dead on Kindle Unlimited and did not put it down until I had finished Crown Me Yours somewhere around sunrise.

This is a dark fantasy romance, and the first third earns its darkness through bodies rotting from the inside out. It will test your stomach before the story finds its footing. Push through it.

What hooked me was how wrong I kept being. Every prediction I made about who these characters were and what they wanted, the author dismantled. Very few people in this story are who they claim to be, and that kept me turning pages way past when I should have stopped.

The ending pulled on every heartstring. Not every thread wraps up happily. I kept hoping for a magical exit ramp from the inevitable. There isn't one. Somehow that made it better.
