It was the biggest gift to spend half of my summer in Sunset Cliffs San Diego. A block from the ocean - cohabitating with the best housemates and growing new and nourishing relationships + connections. 🌊

Every single day was filled with ample time outside, soaking in the sunshine and sharing laughs and smiles with the lovely people around me. I am so grateful to know that reality exists again, no matter how much time passes or how long I’ve been isolated. I can return to a place that fills my soul.

San Diego is a special place and eternally grateful to have made incredible connections and truly filled my cup up in my time there. 💗

Love and miss the homies - thank you for being my tribe and community. The love ripples eternally ✨

I think I first stumbled into Duck Duck Roar sometime in late 2020, fresh out of college and totally unprepared for the magic I was about to find.

What drew me in wasn’t just the music or the absurdly fun events—it was the people. Kind. Wild. Generous. Free. Everyone genuinely cared about the person dancing next to them. That energy is what makes these events so unforgettable. It’s a loop of giving, laughing, crying, overcoming, and celebrating again. Every gathering feels like its own little universe.

Back then, I had no idea how deeply DDR would impact my life.
Since 2020, I’ve gone through so many chapters—good, hard, transformational—and this community has stood by me through all of it. DDR opened my eyes to new ways of living, new practices, and new kinds of bravery I didn’t even know I had. I’m so grateful for the space it creates—for me, and for so many others—to be seen, to heal, to play, and to grow.

I’ve been on and off with DJing over the years. I started back in high school, never thinking it’d be something I’d get good at—just something I was weirdly called to. DDR gave me the encouragement, the stage, and the why to keep going. And now, I’m beyond excited to return to San Diego to open this weekend’s event. After moving to Orange County in 2023, this feels like a true homecoming.

I tried to pull together a few memories from over the years, but choosing just 20 photos or videos is a losing battle. The truth is—my favorite moments with DDR never make it to my phone. They’re too real, too full, too now. The best stuff is undocumented. And that’s kind of the point.

Thank you, @duckduckroar, for being my chosen family, and for everything you’ve created and held.

Let’s kick this thing off right.
Catch me at 3:30PM on Saturday.
Come dance with me.

With love,
James Blonde
