From the second half of Best Friends Forever Fest 2025 in Las Vegas.

A fantastic dinner at Bazaar Meat by José Andrés, Las Vegas.
Played Magical Athlete and Flip 7.
Watched Elliott, Hey Mercedes, Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis,
and Jimmy Eat World.

Missed my friend Tom, who watched @MannequinPussy with me as they played the same stage just a year before. It was a comfort to watch @heymercedes2025 with friends.

Upgraded some buds and later started a conversation with a stranger based in a T-shirt that only one other person and I were selling at a show in Philly. Turned out these three know each other AND make fun music.

I headed home from Vegas with a full heart and was back at the airport 14 hours later to begin my next adventure. 📚👻🪓

I miss you @bestfriendsforeverfest and I can’t wait to see what you’re planning for 2027!

2025’s Best Friends Forever Fest marked not only a gathering of some of my favorite people and bands but also a few checkpoints of sorrow that continue to feel close in this season.

I loved gathering with friends from across the country (and Japan), sharing joy-filled reunions with old friends and new, delicious dinners, and the meaningful conversations with acquaintances that I now consider friends.

Stopped to visit @mperrett14 at the merch booth. They had been working through the night to setup.

Offered to hop in for a bit before dinner. 😃

Running to join dinner, under the canopy.

In the evening it started raining pretty heavily and our crew grabbed ponchos. I grabbed a few extras for friends. @johnnyjm3 @srumble

Love this duo! We have probably shared so many concerts together prior to BFFF and have shared several more since. 🥹 @massbroadcast @ellextracute

This was pricey but cool for movie lovers.

Our adventure crew headed to Play Playground. It was a silly, blast.

9/7/2025 Los Angeles, CA
I happened to see Erica’s post asking if anyone wanted to go to Oasis with her the next day.

Bought a last minute ticket for less than 12 hours later and got to spend some time in the sunshine with @ericarules and her wonderful friends, some sweet pups, and neighbors.

In our wild luck, @laymer and I were in the same section of the Rose Bowl so we got a bit of bonus hangs too. If I remember correctly, Brian’s brother and wife were flying home from Singapore and opted to buy tickets for the show, which happened to be right next to Brian and his husband. We were all together sharing this experience and basking in Erica’s love and hospitality.

I flew home early the next morning and saw one of the most beautiful sunrises, over the mountains, while passing over the ocean, and through clouds.

Spent the rest of the day assisting on set for the @motioncitysoundtrack Particle Physics music video. Learned a dance sequence, made some new friends, and wrangled some old. Glad I could lend a hand and also be a part of the final video.

About my last 48 of 72 hours in the UK, June 2026

While delayed into Manchester I still managed to catch Joyce Manor, Algernon Cadwallader, @thefrontbottoms and my friends at work. (It was still 95 degrees in the venue post show.)

Later, I would make two valiant attempts to split the G and ate late night food from KFC. Our crew stayed up chatting until dawn.

Back to London by train after a brief snooze, then off to Hyde Park to visit my friend working at the Garth Brooks concert.

I met Takumi’s friend Jessica, who also happened to be in town. Together we watched the set and sang along. While I don’t know country music well, growing up with the radio meant that I knew several of his songs. The concert sounded great and what an incredible showman and talented musicians.

Even with a long return trip to my hotel, it was a beautiful night and I hadn’t crossed the Millennium Bridge yet. I changed and set out around midnight, completing a 3 mile hike by 2am.

After an early flight home to MN, unpacked and headed to St. Paul to catch Kurt Vile and friends at the Palace. It was a great way to bookend an already epic weekend of art, music, and friendship.

I recently saw a trailer for Sacrifice, an upcoming film by @romaingavras The film’s sights and sounds seem to include elements also found in the GENER8ION: VISIONS OF 2034 exhibition held at @180.studios by the same Director and Music Producer @surkin

The #Gener8ion exhibit was the catalyst for my first trip to the UK in June. With my luck in motion, my solo trip quickly turned into plans to visit a second exhibit, meeting up with several friends from the US working events in London and Manchester, and scheduling a concert for each night.

I have helped to produce a few music videos (with significantly smaller budgets) and still send ideas to friends about making more and screenplays. At the same time, I continue to wonder about the viability of music videos in general. When Storm came out, it was invigorating to say the least.

I loved the mirrored dance in white shirts played beside the original Storm II. The choreography by @damienjalet was mesmerizing.

After several trains, I took a quick hike to the Strand area to catch the exhibit in the quiet, cool and dark 180 Studios.

Later that night, I caught @balanceandcomposure play at The Dome and made it back to Soho for a late dinner. It was thankfully only 75 degrees by the time I got my ramen. 🥵

The next day, Takumi and I visited the Wes Anderson Archives at the Design Museum before I left to catch a train to Outbreak Fest in Manchester. Not bad for the first 24 hours of 72.

Short mid-week vacations are my new favorite thing

1- Tiffany and I on a WARM hike near the venue.
2- Motion City Soundtrack killing it, per usual!
3 & 4 - Jimmy Eat World making the entire amphitheater cry. (In a good way!)
5 - Illuminati Hotties hyping up the crowd
6 - Potentially the best sushi in Salt Lake City
7 - Little boxes on the hillside

It’s happening again. It is time to celebrate another rotation of the earth for my most beautiful partner in life, love and crime.

In an often cruel dark world you bring consistent kindness and light. I’m so grateful to witness you & your magic each day. Your sensitive, intuitive & creative spirit is like a beacon, always pointing us closer towards what really matters in life. I’m truly so happy that you were born.

Happy Birthday my love. ♥️

Field Notes, On the Dream That Waited

I took this photo of the moon outside Pillar Forum last Monday night.

It was the fourth day of being part of a short feature film production, and I could feel myself beginning to chart all the roads that led me there.

As a kid, I made movies with my siblings and friends on an old video camera. There was a spark then. The joy of being inside something. Part of something. A dream with no language yet.

Did it die in the years after?

Or did it just go dormant?

Waiting for the right time.
The right place.
The right people.

Fast forward.

I meet Sarah. Someone steeped in a deep love of photography. I admired that love before I understood it. Before I knew it might become something I could love too.

Fast forward.

I’m on a dance floor. I meet Kathleen. A shared love of dance, music, community. We become friends.

Fast forward again.

I get a text.
Do you want to be part of a production?

Fast forward.

I’m having coffee with Jamey at Pillar Forum.
I say yes.

Rewind.

I’m going through the motions of college, wondering why I’m studying to work in social services.

Rewind.

I’m sitting in our dad’s garage pretending to be Al Capone while my brother records me with the family camcorder.

Fast forward.

I’m packing my gear for day one of production.

Fast forward.

I’m ascending the 5th Street Towers. I step through the door. I do what I know how to do.

I talk to people.
I meet people.
I laugh.
I joke.
I take photos.

Actors. Film crews. Audio crews. Producers. Script readers. PAs. People moving around each other like a living machine, all trying to make one impossible thing real.

Day two.

“You’re the BTS photographer, right?”
“What’s BTS?”
“Behind the scenes.”

Oh.
Yeah.
That’s what I’m doing.

Maybe this dream is alive now.

Day four ends. I am exhausted. Unable to leave my bed. It didn’t used to be like this. But it is like this now.

Was it worth it?
I think so.

Would I do it again?
Most certainly.

And if you were looking up at the moon Monday night, know that we were looking up at the same moon.

Know that I felt part of something.

I was part of something.

Look how much darkness this little light survived inside.
