When we started making this podcast series, I knew I wanted to make an episode about survivors of sexual assault. Creating this episode has been the most difficult thing I've done in my career, bur it's also the thing I'm most proud of, because we don't talk about the messiness of surviving often enough.

I spoke to 3 incredible women for this episode - Amy Roch from the lgbtqia+ anti-violence charity @galopuk, drag performer @lillysnatch, and poet and lived experience speaker @survivor.andreena.leeanne. I'm so grateful for their time and vulnerability speaking about such a difficult subject. And of course to @beaduncan, who held my hand throughout this whole process - I really couldn't have made this without her.

TW: Transphobia

Trans people are not a joke. There is nothing remotely funny or clever about punching down on any minority group. It’s just lazy “comedy”

My good friend @becomingjude was subjected to transphobia last night, whilst seeing @adamriley5496 at @citycomedyclub (pic 3). The club have released a statement, standing in support of inclusion. Adam simply deleted the historical transphobic material on his page. Whilst some argue that comedy is expression, singling someone out for being trans as they leave the room is not expression. It is hate and it has no place in our society.

Now, since sharing Jude’s post, there’s been more transphobia. Some from bigots, as is expected…but some from within the trans community too. WHAT??! Trans people DO NOT get to police other trans people. End of. We grow up being told to follow outdated rules and beliefs, so it’s understandable that there are levels of internalised transphobia within our community. But our very existence is proof that those “rules” were never correct to begin with. Like a map in any computer game, you only see a certain part until you explore more. Whilst sometimes the internalised transphobia is unconscious, it’s still up to each of us to do better and to look out for one another, not to attack one another.

There is no liberation until all of us are liberated 🏳️‍⚧️
