Yesterday I popped over to @twilightboardgamecafe for a Lairs learn-to-play event hosted by @changelinggaming!

Super cool to meet the designer of Lairs, @chriswestmaas, and got to play games of both Lairs and Café Baras, from @kidstablebg!

Lairs is a very cool head-to-head game of both building a dungeon and navigating your opponent’s dungeon. Race to find treasures, monsters, and the exit!

Café Baras is a chill little café builder where you’ll be adding drinks, food, and décor to your appropriately punny-named café, trying to entice as many customers and regulars to score big!

It was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon – good games, good food, and good company!

Slide 1: Cool games for the weekend! Slide 2: Cool pals for the weekend! Here’s the rundown:

Innovation (@asmadigames): Probably one of my favourite 2P games in my rotation right now; I just love the variation from game to game. Would love to play on BGA if anyone is interested.

Kinfire Delve (@incredibledreamstudios): Returning to the small boxes after many a romp in Kinfire Chronicles makes me appreciate all the small details in the world building between the two games. A very fun co-op card game!

Three Sisters (@25thcenturygames): I finally dusted this one off the shelf, and I’m really glad I did. It seems like there are lots of interesting decisions and varied strategies, and I’m eager to try it solo next! Bring it on, farmer Edith!

Sea Change (@insideupgames): A new sea-themed trick taking game has hit my table, and the gimmick of this one is the fact that the trump suit can change MID-HAND! I’m interested to see how it fares at higher player counts, especially the team variant!

Arboretum (@renegade_game_studios): This innocuous game about trees remains cutthroat as ever. The reveal at the end to show who has the right to score different trees is immensely tense and is a fantastic climax to an amazing card game.

Startups (@oinkgms): Similar to Arboretum, this game has a fun reveal at the end to allow for sneak majorities in a company, keeping you on your toes!

Wild Tiled West (@direwolf): The only game we played that isn’t mine, but I fear will soon NEED to be. Wild Tiled West is a cute western themed polyomino drafting game with a lot of different minigames with the tiles.

Fishing (@riograndegames): Huh, I guess this game does show up everywhere I go, eh?

SETI (@czech_games_edition): Thrilled that I got another game of SETI in. I tried incorporating more scanning in my strategy this time, and it worked out well!

Dale of Merchants (@snowdale_design): This unique deckbuilding race was incredibly close, with almost all players just needing one more turn to get the win! We had a fun combination of animals too!

Scout: A classic end-of-night game of Scout never disappoints!

Anything look fun? Let me know what you got played this weekend!

A few weekends ago I attended my 4th Breakout Con and it is such a wonderful convention! Put on every March in Toronto, ON, Breakout Con is one of my favourite “playing games” conventions. 🥰👏🏻

I get to spend time playing board games with local friends, meeting new locals & Board Game Garden community members and attend the bring & buy! The bring & buy is the best and I always have such a great time perusing for great board game deals! This year I found myself a copy of La Granja: Deluxe Master Set for $80! It was even sleeved! 👏🏻❤️

Some of my standout plays were Galileo Galilei by @pinktroubadour , Endeavor: Deep Sea by @burntislandgames , Explorers Of Navoria by @drandagames and Circadians: First Light by @garphillgames 😊👏🏻

I played so many amazing games and I am so excited for the next Breakout Con already! See you next year?!

PS. I NEED to find a copy of Oh! Meow! Bow! A shedding games with the cutest animal cards! 🐶🐱

Another @breakoutcon flew by just like that, and I’m missing it already from my little cubicle at work! I was so stoked to be surrounded by good games and great people, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Located in the heart of Toronto, Breakout Con is a just half an hour away from me, so there’s no reason for me not to show up! This was my fourth Breakout Con ever, and it has become a convention staple in my yearly schedule.

Breakout is a gaming focused convention for me – it feels like a getaway vacation to just try as many games as I can while surrounded by people who love gaming as much as I do. And wow, did I get to game this weekend! According to my bgstats app, I logged 21 plays over these three days! From the lightest little dexterity games to some big chonkers, I got a whole spectrum of gaming in, and I couldn’t be happier!

Of course, the games are nothing without the company, and it was fantastic to get to see my familiar friends as well as meet in person some new friends I had only talked to online. Some of my closest gaming friends I’ve met AT Breakout in previous years, and I can only hope that trend continues! ❤️

Another big draw of Breakout is the Bring and Buy Auction, a massive room filled with games looking for new owners. Both selling games and buying games is stress free, as sellers just need to preregister their lots and leave them in the room, and buyers just need to walk around and snag whatever catches their eye! I was lucky to have made quite a pretty penny shuttling games to new homes, and came home with new games for myself in Port Royal, Startups, and Marvel Remix (for very, very, very cheap!)

New friends and new games. What more could I ask for? Thanks again to @breakoutcon for the best gaming weekend in Toronto, and I’ll see you all there next year!

Board Gaming! If you know me you know gaming is my #1 hobby, but maybe not why it is. There are 2 big points I like to make as to why I love gaming so much.

1, the sociability of the hobby. Half the fun of playing board games is physically playing with other people, having that social time around the table and just sharing the fun with others. I've also met some super cool people through it. I most likely wouldn't have known of/met any of these folks if it wasn't for board gaming.

2, anybody can (and should😂) play board games! With thousands and thousands of games out there I will always say that there is a game for everybody. Whether that means different complexities, different themes, different mechanisms, etc. For example I asked all my board game peeps to show me their 3 favorite games (either of all time or at the moment) and keen eyes will notice something. How many different games there are!

There are so many good games out there and so many great people to play them with so get out there and game it up! And thank you to everyone who participated in the post!
