Your next opportunity could start with a connection.

The music industry is built on more than talent. It’s built on relationships, collaboration, and finding people who share your passion for creating.

That’s what Making Music is all about.

On Saturday, October 17, we’re bringing artists, producers, songwriters, engineers, and music enthusiasts together for Making Music Panel & Workshop #2 at Garner Underground.

Join us for an evening of conversations, learning, networking, and collaboration with an incredible lineup of music industry professionals:

🎤 Omar Grant @ogrant10
🎤 Ariel Borujow @mixedbyariel
🎤 Chris Pinset @christpinset
🎤 Amond Jackson @amondjackson
🎤 BKorn Music @bkornmusic

Hear their experiences and perspectives, ask questions during the panel discussion, participate in a creative workshop, and share your music during our Plug & Play session.

A special thank you to @rocklandconnected for helping shine a light on the creative community and to @garner_underground and @micvisionstudios for providing a space where these connections can happen.

How much music should you actually be making?

During the Q&A at our first Making Music Panel, @cedricstlouis asked about something a lot of artists wrestle with:

How do you balance making music for yourself with making music people will respond to?

And how much should you be creating versus releasing?

The conversation eventually came back to something simple:

Pay attention to what people respond to. Learn from it. Find the balance between your own creative instincts and the audience you’re trying to reach.

Keep getting the reps in.
YOU HAVE TO KEEP MAKING MUSIC

That’s part of what the Q&A at Making Music Panel and Workshop is about, giving artists the opportunity to ask the questions they’re actually dealing with.

October 17, we’re doing it again.

You can have incredible music sitting on your hard drive.

Until someone gives you those first three minutes, they have no idea what you have.

At our first Making Music Panel, @christpinset shared a perspective that stuck with me:

The music business is a people business.

Chris talked about understanding people, creating incentives, and using your relationships and resources to give people a reason to participate.

A reason to come to the show.
A reason to listen.
A reason to collaborate.
A reason to bring someone else into the room.

The music still has to be great.

And part of building a career is learning how to get people to care enough to give what you created a chance.

Ask yourself: What are you doing to make people want to be part of what you’re building?

These are the kinds of conversations we created Making Music for.

On October 17, we’re continuing them.

You never know who’s in the room.

At our first Making Music Panel, @bkornmusic broke down something that changed the way he approached the music business.

He started out thinking the path was making great beats on his own and waiting for the right artist to eventually hear them.

What actually opened doors?

Other people.

Other producers brought different skills, different experiences and different networks into the equation.

That’s what collaboration can do.

And that’s a big part of what Making Music is becoming.

A place for artists, producers, engineers and music professionals to get in the same room, learn from each other, build relationships and create opportunities that might not exist otherwise.

The next room is October 17th.

No one builds something meaningful alone.

This event happened because people believed in a shared mission and contributed what they could.

Thank you to:

• Mic Vision Studios for opening its doors and providing the photo studio for the workshop.
@micvisionstudios

• Medjine and Garner Underground for designing the set and securing the gallery for both the panel discussion and Plug & Play.
@garner_underground @sognerie

• Hudson’s Mill for donating drink vouchers.
@hudsonsmillny

• Nyack Rock Shop for helping spread the word.
@therockshopnyack

• Arkin for volunteering his time, providing professional live sound, microphones, speakers, lighting, troubleshooting behind the scenes, and helping host the Plug & Play.
@arkinrecords @prodbyarkin

• AJ for leading an incredible workshop.
@amondjackson

• BKorn and Chris for volunteering as panelists and sharing their experiences.
@bkornmusic @christpinset

• My wife for preparing the space.

• My son and daughter for capturing the entire day behind the camera.

And to everyone who attended…

Thank you.

Some of you drove more than two hours to be there.

By the end of the night, artists were meeting producers, producers were meeting artists, and new relationships were already forming.

That’s exactly why we created this event.

Different Roles. Same Mission.

If you attended, tag someone you met that night. Let’s keep building this community.
