what if the misfits were the ones who had it right all along?

the opening line of “Revival,” from @garrisonstarr ’s new album The Gospel Truth, gives us goosebumps and tears. outside the walls we were told to stay within, we’ve found more love and a deeper spirituality than we ever knew existed.

we get called heretics all the time. but you know who else they called a heretic? 👀

Tricia Rissmann Presents: Garrison Starr, The Gospel Truth Album Release
Sunday, November 15, 2026
Doors 2:00 PM | Show 3:00 PM

“A Lucinda Williams for Gen X’ers.” -NPR

“One of the strongest voices in town. She is also the author of affecting, emotion-bearing songs that are clothed in attractive, melodic garb.” -Billboard

Garrison Starr is the quintessential musical triple-threat, singer, songwriter, Grammy-nominated record producer, and her soon-to-be-released latest full-length album, Garrison Starr and The Gospel Truth, reveals her at the height of her powers.

Starr calls the new collection of songs, “Swamp Gospel Hymns for Humans,” the next chapter in her story of recovery and healing from her Evangelical Christian upbringing. Her previous album, "Girl I Used To Be,” released during the pandemic in March 2021, launched her exploration of deconstruction on the path towards self-love and forgiveness. “Girl I Used To Be” is the story of saying goodbye to what was, and The Gospel Truth is the story of the journey over the bridge to freedom.

“I find no fault with this dude.”

@garrisonstarr spent years having religion shoved at her. but when people badmouth Jesus, she still finds herself jumping to his defense.

her advice to the church: just lead with the story of Jesus. what he said, what he did. let people get curious about that.
because it’s not his fault we got it all wrong.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support 911 Project Harmony live @thetroubadour last week! The show was a huge success and many hearts were touched. We are so grateful to all of the songwriters and first responders who shared their stories through song. We can't wait until the next one!

what happens when you deconstruct so hard you circle all the way back to Jesus?

for us, staying close to Jesus has meant being willing to ask even the scariest questions. is Jesus real? is Jesus God? that’s the only way to find out what you actually believe.

not knowing is scary and unsettling, but it’s amazing what happens when you’re brave enough to stay on that shaky ground. 🤍

When did rejection become an expression of love?

Singer-songwriter @garrisonstarr shares the painful experience of being outed by a pastor and shunned by her friends, all in the name of “tough love.”

But is that really the love Jesus modeled?
