POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Back in June, I attended Gatefield Caustival with my friend @chidiogo.nkamnebe, whilst surrounded by art, film, and voices refusing to remain silent, one truth echoed loudly: Democracy isn’t just a date on the calendar; it is active citizenship.

Today, as we mark Independence, it is difficult to ignore the weight our nation carries. Looking at where we are right now, it feels like we are living under the most challenging democratic administration since 1999. The hardship is real, the frustrations are deep, and the cracks in governance are impossible to pretend away.

And yet, pointing out where we are failing isn’t an act of betrayal—it’s an act of deep love for this land.
I refuse to let current missteps diminish my faith in what Nigeria can become.

The Nigerian Dream isn't something handed down from office holders; it is something we envision, demand, and build with our own hands.

We choose to stay, to speak, and to make that dream a reality. Happy Independence Day🇳🇬.

Women often have to work twice as hard to attain political office, yet they still face significant violence. From online harassment to targeted intimidation, digital platforms have become another arena where women are silenced and attacked.

Building a democracy that works for everyone requires removing these barriers and holding platforms accountable for protecting women’s rights to participate, lead, and be heard.

Thank you to our panelists, @sholape__ , nimisire, @uloma and @ummi_alexis, for reminding us that democracy cannot be truly inclusive without women’s safety and participation.

Protecting democracy is a shared responsibility. It begins with paying attention, asking questions, and participating. Holding leaders accountable is part of meaningful political participation.

Thank you to our incredible panelists, @fakhrriyyah.h @kofoisart for reminding us that democracy is built through everyday action.

The energy was insane. 1,000+ creators and activists. 7 films. 25+ visual and performing artists. 1 mission: to record the history of our generation.

If you weren’t at Caustival, this recap is the best we could do to capture the magic. Check @gatefieldcaustival for more recaps from our annual arts and film festival. See you in 2027! 🔵

Special thanks to National Endowment for Democracy, Luminate, @techherng, @nlinnigeria, and @ppdc_ng for making this happen!
