Early Offseason Basketball Lift. This LB session was focused on movement quality and establishing strength in deep ranges. The movement prep block (not in video) consisted of deep tier plyos, extensive depth drops, and foot/ankle complex strengthening.

For the primary strength block, we utilized Hatfield Squats to get quality range on a squat pattern while also pushing the loads. We modified these by having the athletes hover the hands or placing just finger tips on the bar until they get to parallel. This is a really great way to get tall guys (+6’8) to reach parallel and beyond under load.

The accessory block consisted of three movements.

A. Goblet Cyclist Squats with a 5s up 5s down tempo. Heels elevated with the tempo forces our longer limbed athletes to load that quad.

B. Manual Resistance (MR) SL Ham Curl, where the athlete is fighting against his partner thru the full range. MR allows the force needed to complete the rep to be adjusted seamlessly as fatigue sets in.

C. SSB Toes Elevated Calf Raise, we worked on dynamic stiffness and compliance at that joint earlier, so these allowed us to work strength at a deeper range.

Finally, the DBAB Block. Split Squat Yielding ISOs for time. As the time has increased each week, the athletes have reluctantly adapted.
