Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 10 No dialogue this time. Just a little visual experiment with movement, patterns, and the blue and white stripes that inspired the film’s visual identity. Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 9 “The house came with kittens. I named this one Van Gogh.” Sometimes doing less just means spending the day with a bunch of kittens. No plans, no responsibilities, just enjoying the little things. And honestly, Van Gogh looks like he hasn’t checked his emails in years. Send this to someone who loves kittens. Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 8 “There is something comforting about knowing where you’re supposed to stand, where to look, what version of yourself to be.” Sometimes you can leave your world behind, but that doesn’t mean you leave all your habits behind with it. She’s used to being in front of a camera, knowing exactly how to pose and how to present herself. But out here in Lake Como, nobody really cares about any of that. I wanted to play with that contrast between the world she’s used to and the world she’s slowly discovering. And of course, add a little humor to it. Because even when you’re trying to escape your old life, a part of it always comes with you. Written & directed by @dirbycaio Watch the full film on the Bad Flavor YouTube channel (link in bio). Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 7 “The book told me to sit still and to do absolutely nothing.” One of my biggest lessons in 2025 was learning to spend more time doing absolutely nothing. No music in the shower, no headphones during a walk, eating in silence, or simply sitting still without any distractions. I realized how little time we actually give ourselves to just think. To have conversations with ourselves, come up with new ideas, process things, or find solutions to problems we’ve been carrying around. Sometimes we’re so busy distracting ourselves that we don’t even give our own thoughts a chance. Written & directed by @dirbycaio Watch the full film on the Bad Flavor YouTube channel (link in bio). Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 6 “The book suggested breathing exercises. I made it twenty-three seconds. At least that’s a start.” Meditation sounds simple, but sometimes doing absolutely nothing can be the hardest thing. I’ve tried meditation myself many times. Some days I can really get into it, other days my mind just won’t slow down. It’s something that takes practice, patience, and consistency. But I can honestly say it’s helped me during times when I needed more balance in my life. And sometimes, even twenty-three seconds is a good start. Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 5 “Another chapter suggested fishing.” Sometimes fishing isn’t really about catching a fish. It’s about sitting still, being patient, and enjoying the moment without expecting anything in return. Sounds simple, right? Well, not for everyone. In this chapter, she’s trying to put the lessons from the Doing Less, Somehow book into practice. But instead of enjoying the peace and quiet, she gets so caught up in trying to catch something that she ends up falling into the water. Maybe the whole point was to stop trying so hard in the first place. Written & directed by @dirbycaio Watch the full film on the Bad Flavor YouTube channel (link in bio). Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 4 “Bookmark, page 135. Restlessness.” Everyone seems to be building something these days. A career, a business, a brand, a following. Always chasing the next big thing, or at least making it look that way. And somewhere along the way, being busy almost became a way of proving that we’re doing something with our lives. I think a lot of us can relate to that feeling. Being so caught up in what’s next that we sometimes forget to enjoy what’s already here. A little fun fact about this scene: this was probably the most challenging scene of the entire film. We wanted to create a chain reaction, starting with her dropping a little ball and ending with sprinkles falling onto her ice cream. Something none of us had ever attempted before, so figuring it all out was quite a challenge for the art department. And the crazy part? We only had time for ONE take before going into overtime. So what you’re watching is literally our first and last take. Written & directed by @dirbycaio Watch the full film on the Bad Flavor YouTube channel (link in bio). Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 3 “That book caught my attention.” Introducing the Doing Less, Somehow book. The little book that becomes a central element throughout the entire film. What starts as a simple discovery slowly turns into a journey of learning how to slow down, let go, and enjoy the little things in life. But what’s actually inside the book? And what kind of exercises will she have to do? Stay tuned for the next parts to find out, or watch the full film now on the Bad Flavor YouTube channel (link in bio). Doing Less, Somehow ~ Part 2 Shortfilm for @guess Written & directed by @dirbycaio “Like stepdad, he can stare at water for three hours and somehow call that a day. With that dumb smile on his face.” Some people are really good at doing absolutely nothing. Others have no idea how to. In this part of the film, our main character has finally arrived at Lake Como. Away from the chaos, surrounded by peace and quiet. But slowing down turns out to be harder than she expected. Funny enough, this particular scene was inspired by a real conversation I had with my mother. We were talking about how some people are naturally good at being on vacation, while others, including us, struggle to switch off. She told me how my stepdad is one of those people who can truly enjoy doing nothing. And somehow, that little conversation found its way into the script. “My mom kept telling me I needed a break. Escape from the noise.” And that’s where ‘Doing Less, Somehow’ begins. In the middle of a rainy, chaotic Milan, where everything feels like it’s moving too fast. A girl rushing through the city, trying to catch a train, leaving the noise behind in search of something slower. A journey from chaos to stillness. From always being in a hurry to learning how to slow down. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing different scenes and little moments from the film. “Doing Less, Somehow” OUT NOW. A short film for @guess Written & directed by @dirbycaio Sometimes, the best way to find yourself is to get lost somewhere else. Doing Less, Somehow follows a journey from the chaos of the city to the quiet beauty of Lake Como. A story about slowing down, escaping the noise, and rediscovering the beauty of simply being present. Months of hard work, countless hours of preparation, and an incredible team of talented people who helped bring this vision to life. I’m beyond grateful to everyone who contributed to this project. Doing Less, Somehow ~ The Short Film (Director’s Cut) for @guess Written & Directed by @dirbycaio My first fashion film, and probably the most important project of my career so far. I set the bar higher for myself with this one. Months of work, from writing the first concept to bringing the entire world to life on 16mm around Milan and Lake Como. A big thank you to @valentijnbouman and the entire GUESS team for putting their trust in me and my vision. A project that challenged me, pushed me, and showed me what I’m capable of when I fully trust the vision. Tomorrow, it’s finally yours to see. Full film drops tomorrow at 1 PM CEST (Amsterdam time). Stay tuned.
