POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When we entered the cinema, I promised to detach myself and watch it as an audience. But having seen and experienced the set made it difficult to do so. Especially because the story of RIA resonated. A lot.

RIA is a film about struggle, about the fight to stay and defend your place (literally and figuratively). It's about countering the systemic injustices of a society that keeps destroying people, places, and dignity. And I believe most importantly, it is ultimately a story about community.

I am not good with words, bilang ang love language ko ay acts of service at quality time !!! HSHDHS pero i will try my best to put into words how much this film and project means to me 🙇‍♀️

2025 was supposed to be a slow year for me and I was supposed to be in a different project. But somehow, I found myself saying yes to RIA, not knowing what was ahead for me and all of us.

A lot of heartbreak, triumphs, sleepless nights, countless conversations, push and pull with "Can we do it? No, we can't but we'll try our best." Moments of doubts and at times wondering if we can still hold on.

But in all the troubles and doubts, giving yourself inside and out (ika nga ng Simple Minds), there I found community.

When we finally got to watch RIA, I found myself crying over the entire ending sequence to credits. When Ria took a moment to cry and let it all out then she stood up to fight back again with her people. That, there, at that moment, was true strength. It reminded me of the people, the punks, the characters, the places, the community that started and built RIA. It reminded me of the entire crew, staff, production team and the strength, patience, and understanding. It reminded me of the time when it felt like odds were against us but we persevered nonetheless.

It reminded me of the community I love and admire so much. Especially, Ms. Tin, Direk Arvin, Ms. Kyla. I am always inspired by your hearts. ❤️‍🔥

(Naiiyak na naman ako??? Chariz.)

But in all honesty... puno ng puso at pagmamahal ang RIA. Mula sa mga taong nagsimula hanggang sa mga nagtapos nito.

Its award at BIFF is so fitting.

The Heart of Eurasia for a film made with so much love and soul 🫀🐦‍🔥⭐️🔥

TAGA is finally out on @shortoftheweek! 🇵🇭

What a ride this film has been. From our world premiere at @hollyshorts to @sundanceorg and picking up awards at FilmQuest, Catalina, San Diego Filipino Film Festival and Fil-Am Creative Film Festival. Still can’t believe it.

Shooting in Kalinga is something I’ll never forget. I even came home with my first tattoo ever, done by a villager in Buscalan. Definitely didn’t expect that when I signed on, but now I carry a piece of those mountains with me everywhere.

Getting to film back home in the Philippines was a dream I didn’t even know I needed until I was standing in those mountains. Thank you again @jillsachs for your vision and @joyceliucountryman for bringing me along, and to every single person on this cast and crew.

Thank you @janetyangofficial @capeusa @juliasgouw for believing this story is worth sharing and for all you do to advocate for new voices.

Taga is now yours. Go watch it! Link in bio.

LOOK: Official poster of RIA for the Busan International Film Festival. @busanfilmfest

At first glance, the design takes inspiration from real punk zines and underground gig posters. Its raw, DIY aesthetic reflects the spirit of the punk community at the heart of the film.

Look closer, and the poster reveals the film’s central theme: resistance. It pays tribute to Filipino underground punk communities that continue to hold their ground amid displacement, impunity, and systemic abuses of power.

In the image, RIA becomes Tarima itself: a home, a community, and a symbol of defiance. Though threatened by forces determined to erase it, Tarima refuses to disappear. Bruised but unbroken, it continues to resist, endure, and stand its ground.
