Now open: Gemma Smith’s ‘Shadow Glass’ is now open at our Naarm/Melbourne gallery.

Join us for opening drinks with the artist from 6 – 8 PM Thursday 08 Oct 26.

Across this new body of works, Smith considers painting as an open-ended process of feeling and discovery, allowing colour, light, material and gesture to guide the development of each work.

We are delighted to announce Gemma Smith's forthcoming solo exhibition, 'Shadow Glass', opening at the Naarm/Melbourne gallery on 08 Oct 26.

To accompany this body of work, independent curator Max Delany has written an incisive exhibition text that explores the nuances of Smith's engaged and intuitive practice.

"There is a particular kind of attentiveness at work in Gemma Smith’s recent paintings: an attentiveness to phenomena in a state of becoming, and to things that might otherwise escape notice – the shape of wind, the movement of a body, the changing density of light, the celebration of sunshine. Her paintings might be understood as accumulations of such experiences: sensory, phenomenological and material, alongside literary and philosophical reflections, gathered less according to a predetermined image or plan than through an experimental process of looking, feeling, wandering and wondering, given form through painterly mark-making." – Max Delany, 2026
