Some recent #paintings this summer in Glasgow.

Got these shutters finished off, I’m away to Glasgow again so thought I’d get them done quickly or they’d just be sitting there unfinished for a while. Kept it simple, no point fully rendering it on the corrugated surface. If I’d have tilted the pink windows in the purple fade at the bottom I’d have created more depth and made it a bit more dynamic, but I didn’t so it is what it is 😅. I probably could have chucked a little bit of highlight on there too in a lighter shade of the base colour. Shouts to @loopcoloursuk @alfreshcodave for the paint support as always ✌️🙏✌️

Had a great time at @bring_the_paint again this time. Massive thank you to everyone involved. Was great to catch up with everyone too.

My wall was a perfect size for some chilled improv painting. Thursday I just painted the wall grey, Friday I marked up and started filling in my main character, Saturday I added the skull keeping it the same style and detail as the bloke poking out of the head and then started adding some characters to the background. I was thinking maybe three styles of character could be good, but on reflection I really disliked them and thought they just took away from the main character, so on Sunday I painted them out and just kept the background simple. I enjoyed being tucked away in a relatively secluded spot, I was able to step back and reflect on what I was painting without too much interference. I think it’s those time when you’re analysing your piece that are really important for generating ideas and moving the piece forward.

Also, I forgot to mention, I took a photo at the end of Saturday and the sun reflecting on the wall added some interesting highlights around the eyes of the character so I recreated it in spray paint on Sunday, luckily I had the colours to do so.
I enjoy these happy accidents you get when you don’t have a plan.

I had a bloody lovely time in Glasgow for @yardworksglasgow catching up with pals, and making some new ones. There’s something about Glasgow I really like, mainly it’s the people. They’re friendly, down to earth, extremely generous and very often hilariously funny. Thanks to @gazmacswg3 @theguzler @jpeg.dp and all the team for having me up, and for all of there hard work leading up to and during the event. (No Air bnbs were injured during this making of this painting).
I didn’t have a plan, I grabbed a load of old sketches on the way out the door, I was trying to decide on one sketch to paint but couldn’t make a decision so went with a bunch of them. I hadn’t painted for a while so felt a bit rusty at first. After a couple of characters I got back into the flow and was able to get them done without any cutbacks. Was just a good exercise to combine 2D and rendered characters together, use different techniques, and also cover the wall but without having to use loads of paint. My one regret is putting a crease in the front of the T-shirt, it wasn’t needed and I don’t think it added to the character, so I could have left it out. But overall happy with the result.
Also, I’d like to mention all the other artists in attendance, there was a great mix of styles and ways of working that I found really refreshing and inspiring. It was great to see some young artists dropping some absolute gems.

Thought I’d just post this to my page for now as I’ve mainly just been sharing stories recently. I had fun painting this reaper mural at @levelstattoostudio (coming soon, watch this space as they say) for me old mucker @mrbaldaro and the fastest tattooer in the west mids @ozkotattooart . It was great to just take my time on this one, and to be painting it for people who just wanted it to be as good as possible, the concept was that the grim reaper has taken his skull off so he can tattoo a Lilly onto it (New year New me) the eyeballs are floating around watching him and one of them has floated into his hood, possibly it’s also instructing him on how the tattoo is going too (left a bit right a bit) It was good to bring a bit of narrative into the piece and to also use a slightly different colour scheme (No Pink) hopefully it’s come together successfully. I’ll post again once there’s more stuff in the studio to give an idea of scale as you can’t really tell from the photos. Had another lovely day at @chapterstattoostudio getting my brain 🧠 rattled by @jamieleetattoo adding the final touches to my dome. Always a pleasure visiting their studio.
