This little bean is the oddball of the coffee world. ☕️

A peaberry forms as a single round seed instead of the usual two.

Ours is roasted light/medium with notes of black currant, plum + chamomile.

And nope, those flavors aren’t added. They’re tasting notes naturally present in the coffee. 👀

Small batch, good company. Freshly roasted organic coffee for our friends at Whitemarsh Foundation’s Open Space Local Kitchens event. Thoughtfully sourced, roasted to order, as always.

☕️ National Coffee Day.
This is going to sound SO sappy and lame and stupid and I agree with you 100% even as I write this, but coffee is more than just a drink to me. Hendy’s will be turning 9 years old this December, which means this is technically its 8th National Coffee Day, and today I got to take a moment and reflect on where we’ve been for the last 8 NCDs (National Coffee Days abbreviated. Cool kids abbreviate stuff. Otherwise known as CKAS. Definitely a thing).

The first big Hendy’s project was our shirt sales to promote our subscription box, Hendy’s Coffee Box, which we used to get our name and reputation as coffee professionals out in the world. We worked with local roasters around Arizona (shoutout to @bergiescoffee, @novelacoffeeroasters, and @villagecoffeeaz for being the first ones who actually believed in us and trusted us to talk well about your beans). Eventually we added another leg to the business, bought a roaster, and launched Hendy’s Coffee Roasters to sell our own coffee. Sold bags, saved up, roasted more, and added Hendy’s Coffee Cart to the family. Obviously this is a very broad overview, and not all projects were successful. Perhaps for our birthday I’ll go through all of the failed legs of the business (I had a podcast like a true coffee snob for a hot minute before podcasts were cool. Which is coincidentally also something only coffee snobs say.) But that’s life, it’s success and failure. Today is about celebration 🎉

I know we have a long way to go, but I’m so proud of how far we’ve come (SOMEONE STOP ME THIS SOUNDS SO LAME READING IT OUT LOUD, IT’S TRUE BUT UGH IT’S SO CLICHE).
To everyone who has supported us from the first t-shirt to the most recent roast: Happy National Coffee Day ❤️☕

HUGE shoutout to @genuineorigin for being so quick to fulfill orders & for @fedex for quickly delivering.

It also helps that we’re only a few hours away from a genuine origin fulfillment center, but hey if it wasn’t for the quickness of GO & FedEx, that closeness wouldn’t even matter. even when the bean we desire is only at the west coast distribution center, it’s still delivered within a few days of the order being placed.

If you’re a coffee lover… go follow @genuineorigin and check out their content to see the behind the scenes of “cupping”, establishing “tasting notes” AND MORE!☕️🫘

🌍 TOUR GUIDE 🌎
📍Next stop: Nyeri County, Kenya! 🇰🇪
🍂 Moving into fall, we will be staying in East Africa and enjoy a classic Kenya coffee.
🌶️This cup will have all the complexity you would expect. It starts with a bright acidity and a little African spice up front.
🫖As it cools a bit, you can pick up a bit of apricot and maybe a hint of almond and black tea. This one is a bit hard to accurately describe in detail, but it is definitely delicious!
