please don’t leave me where you found me.

i think about how often we fail to really take stock of the fact that so many of change so much not only during a training block, but during the race itself. there’s always always the version of us before and that which is us after.

we start, we finish and in the middle we grow, we learn, we mess up and we try again. that’s why life is so much of a metaphor for marathon training. on race day, we speed up, we slow down, we mess up, we correct ourself and we try again.. but this time, the clock is ticking..

in life, we’re all just trying to get better and so much of life is about learning as you go. you fail, you fall, you forget who you are, you take some time, rest, learn recover and with the hope of leaning in the new lighter you, you’re better than you were a week, a month, a year, two years, five years.. there’s no clock, just this one life..

during the marathon, i often say to people towards the back half.. “i don’t care if you walk, but you don’t you dare give up on yourself..” i will never let you forget what you’re capable of but i want to remind you it’s ok to adjust.. but you have to learn, pick yourself back up and continue..

here’s to never being left where you found them.. during @tcsamsterdammarathon
