WEEK 3!

Down at the St. Mary’s Open, Owen Kohut ‘29 and Sophia Skrivanich ‘30 sailed a great event in a puffy 5-15kts. With only 3 races outside the top 5, Owen and Sophia were able to stay at the top of A division as the scores shuffled, proving their skills against the fleet.

Gilda Dondona ‘28 and Halina Diehl ‘30 raced at the top of the fleet across the Cayuga Clash and the Seneca Showdown. Gilda and Halina posted 21 points across 10 races, including mostly P1s and P2s, showing great consistency at the front of the pack.

A little K-Tip fill in! Same hair, just fuller.

Extensions are more than massive transformations. They can be for adding in extra body, too.

Curious what that means for your hair?

I had the absolute pleasure of teaching @georgetown_sailing yoga on Friday afternoon. We sweated, we laughed, and ultimately we focused on how using breath to mitigate the fluctuation of thought can improve performance on the water, and well, anywhere. They are coolest yogis and yoginis. ‘Till next time, GUST. ❤️

MAISA Players of the Week
For our first regatta weekend, here are our standout players of the week…

On the open circuit, Fordham’s Jacob Zils ‘27 and Cia Pilcher ‘28 had a strong performance at the KP Dinghy Open Invite, posting four 1st place finishes in 8 races sailed. Their sailing contributed to an overall win for the Rams.

At Navy Women’s, Georgetown’s Nissa Berman ‘30 and Anna Brzezinski ‘27 had a very consistent scoreline in the combined division event. Finishing within the top 5 in 10 out of 11 races, helping their team to a victory in Annapolis.

If we had to pick one word to describe today? Inconsistency 😵‍💫

Light, shifty breeze dominated the racing, even through a 180-degree wind shift mid-day. The name of the game wasn’t to win races — it was to avoid 18s.

The scoresheet reflects just that: no clear winners yet. Navy held a commanding lead over the fleet to start the day, but Brown overtook them and now sits in first, two points ahead of Stanford.

The one truly consistent team near the top has been Penn. They’ve made a meteoric rise from a bubble team in yesterday’s semis to fourth in both divisions, and fourth overall.

Every set brought movement in the standings, and with up to six more races per division still scheduled, nothing is guaranteed.

If Brown holds on to first, it would mark the first time since 1948 that the Bears have been crowned Open Fleet Race Champions 👑

Tomorrow’s start time has been moved up to 8:30am. The door to the top is still wide open — who will rise to the occasion?

And so ends five days of collegiate sailing coverage of Open Team Race Nationals and the Women’s Team Race Nationals. Grateful for the opportunity to do this and learn just a little bit more about sailing. Here are just a few images of the smiles I captured on Sunday and Monday during Women’s Nationals. Kudos to the College of Charleston for singing the National Anthem on Monday and congratulations to Harvard and Stanford on your National Championships. Best wishes to all.

Day 2 of Open Team Race Nationals in the books ✅

The Round of 16 wrapped up by midday in lighter breeze, setting the stage for a stacked top eight. Navy, Tulane, Georgetown, Brown, Dartmouth, Stanford, Roger Williams, and Harvard all punched their tickets and race committee wasted no time getting the next round underway.

A brief weather hold for storms and lightning paused the action, but the race committee kept things moving and got the fleet back on the water to finish out the Round of 8.

Now it all comes down to the Final Four:
Harvard leads the charge at 21–1 after an undefeated second round, followed by Roger Williams (16–6), Stanford (15–7), and Dartmouth (12–10).

Racing resumes tomorrow at 10:00am with Roger Williams vs. Stanford to kick things off. Catch the action live on the College Sailing YouTube page.
