There are no rules, no right or wrong—just the joy of making something that tells your own story. Come and hang with us in Penang! This is your sign to book that short getaway to visit the historic site of George Town and catch an outdoor film screening of The Substation at 35: Moving Images Retrospective of Singapore Short Films, among many other arts & cultural programmes of the annual @georgetownfestival. As we rebirth Moving Images from its last programming 10 years ago, this travelling Retrospective is a reminder of how cinema begins in our shared regional heritage: with a gathering and the belief that short films matter. 📍 Penang, Malaysia (1.5 hr flight from Singapore) 🗓️ Wed, 5 August 2026 🕖 8.45pm - 10.15pm (including 25min Q&A) 🎟️ Free admission 🔗 georgetownfestival.com/programme/wayang-pacak Filmmakers: Michael Kam, Daniel Hui, Ghazi Alqudcy & Ezzam Rahman, Jacen Tan, Jerrold Chong, Kirsten Tan, Royston Tan, Tan Wei Keong, and Wee Li Lin. #ilobemyjob 🇪🇸❤️🇲🇾

@georgetownfestival 2026 is finally here! But the question is, is it worth going? If you’ve been the previous years, you might think it’s repetitive. The vendors are mostly the same around in other Penang markets, the light show on heritage buildings have returned, and really on Day 1 and 2 of the first festival weekend, you can complete it in 1 hour if it’s not your thing. BUT I did appreciate how the performance stage is bigger this year. There are more armchairs and seating areas, and the shows do seem more diverse this year as last year was quite Taiwanese dominated. There seems to be a more diverse curated group of events this year and it’s too early to judge, but if you’re headed for the performance tonight at esplanade, go to the merch booth cuz they sell out quick, GRAB don’t drive, and there are food stalls and mostly clothing stalls there. Lots of tourists, lots of people, but if u have nothing to do this weekend and just wanna chill, this is def worth lazing your Sunday around for on a picnic mat 👍 I’ll be attending the shows for the upcoming week and giving honest reviews so follow along for some critic ~ #gtf2026 #georgetownfestival #penang #thingstodoinpenang #georgetown
