🎾 ABOUT THE ARTIST 🎾

Georg Nordmark (b. 1994) is an sculptor based in Gothenburg, Sweden. His practice centres on the construction and adaptation of objects derived from tools used in the handling of animals. His sculptural works draw directly from these utilitarian forms, reconfiguring them to examine the systems through which human control is exercised over non-human behaviour. Central to his approach is the concept of “enrichment” — the idea that captive environments can be made more tolerable by introducing stimuli that evoke natural behaviours.

Nordmark’s work both adopts and critiques this logic. By producing objects that facilitate controlled expressions of instinct, he highlights how such systems substitute the complexity and abundance of natural habitats with predetermined, restricted responses. His sculptures often suggest a tension between care and control, exposing how environments are engineered to manage behaviour within confined, artificial conditions. Through this lens, Nordmark’s practice reflects on broader questions of domestication, agency, and the design of spaces that regulate both animal and human activity.

Recent solo and duo shows include: “Between Hand & Mouth” at Carl Kostyál, Stockholm (2026); “Optimal Tonus” at General Expenses, Mexico City (2025); “Georg Nordmark and Robin Seir” at Cora Hillebrand, Gothenburg (2025); “Creature Comfort” at Simulacra Gallery, Beijing (2024); “Knot Garden” at Isaak Fangel, Copenhagen (2024).

Georg Nordmarks utställning "Between Hand & Mouth" på Hospitalet i Stockholm. "In ‘Between Hand & Mouth’, Georg Nordmark presents a group of sculptures that resist being seen as separate, self-contained objects. Instead, they appear as carefully arranged situations—setups that hold a moment between impulse and satisfaction. Drawing on methods from animal handling and behavioural enrichment, the exhibition looks at systems that control access and response. What emerges is a focused reflection on how behaviour is shaped by design, and how such frameworks organise both need and reaction."

GEORG NORDMARK
BETWEEN HAND & MOUTH
PROJECT SPACE
HOSPITALET, STOCKHOLM
APRIL 25 – MAY 25 2026

Carl Kostyál is delighted to present ‘Between Hand & Mouth’ the third solo exhibition of Georg Nodmark (b. 1994, Gothenburg, Sweden) with the gallery and the artist’s first solo exhibition at Hospitalet in Stockholm.

Nordmark first exhibited with the gallery at Art Cologne, Germany (2022) followed by a duo presentation with Harrison Pearce at Chart Art Fair, Copenhagen (2023). Nordmark most recently exhibited with the gallery at MARKET ART Fair in the group exhibition, ‘For Pete’s Sake 2.0’ (2025). Nordmark has also featured in several curated group exhibitions at Hospitalet, Stockholm, including Gullringsbo Konstsamling, Vol. 1 (2022), Vol. 2 (2023) and Vol. 3 (2025).

Georg Nordmark’s practice centres on the construction and adaptation of objects derived from tools used in the handling of animals. His sculptural works draw directly from these utilitarian forms, reconfiguring them to examine the systems through which human control is exercised over non-human behaviour. Central to his approach is the concept of “enrichment” — the idea that captive environments can be made more tolerable by introducing stimuli that mimic natural behaviours.

[Go West: Cora Hillebrand]

Following our recent interview with Stockholm-based Coulisse Gallery, we turn our focus to Gothenburg, where artist-turned-gallerist Cora Hillebrand has been running her eponymous gallery since 2018, positioning it as a pivotal part of the local art scene.

“Every time I ask an artist if they want to exhibit at the gallery and they say yes—it’s a highlight!” she reflects when asked about the past years in our latest interview on the C-print site.

The gallery is soon entering a new chapter with artist representation - more info to come. In the meanwhile, Danish-born artist Luna Lopez is currently on view with a solo show ’Hånden på Hjertet’ until April 19, 2026.

Georg Nordmark (b. 1994 Gothenburg, Sweden) lives and works in Gothenburg and Berlin.

Georg holds a BFA and MFA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. His practice takes as its point of departure the concept of “enrichment” in animal husbandry, wherein stimuli are introduced to render conditions of captivity more tolerable by eliciting species-specific behaviors. Working primarily through sculpture, he examines how such apparatuses operate as forms of control, drawing formal and conceptual parallels to the agency of the art object. These inquiries are further situated within contemporary cultures of engagement, where similar behaviorist principles structure interaction and consumption. In works such as “Fire Hose Rose Bouquet”, this line of thinking extends toward an aesthetic of behavioral abstraction, as environments are supplanted by refined behaviorist criteria.

Recent solo and duo shows include “Optimal Tonus” at General Expenses in Mexico City (2025), “Georg Nordmark and Robin Seir” at Cora Hillebrand Gallery, Gothenburg (2025); “Creature Comfort” at Simulacra Gallery, Beijing (2024); “Knot Garden” at Minor Gallery, Copenhagen, and The Great Exhibition & Hall Gallery, Stockholm (2024), and “Housebroken” at ISSUES Gallery, Stockholm (2023). Recent group exhibitions include “For Pete’s Sake 2.0” with Carl Kostyál at Market Art Fair, Stockholm (2025) and “Gullringsbo Konstsamling” at Hospitalet, Stockholm (2025) amongst others.

2025 was a year of sustained growth for General Expenses. We participated in international fairs, developed increasingly ambitious exhibitions, and operated simultaneously across two spaces —the gallery and the showroom— refining our pace, working methods, and reach. It was a year of testing, adjustment, and consolidation.

All of that experience now converges.

In 2026, General Expenses will move its entire operation to Roma Sur, into a new space at Medellín 263. This shift allows us to concentrate what we’ve learned, expand the scope of the program, and think the gallery at a different scale, with greater clarity and ambition. Every step forward is grounded in what has already been built: the relationships, questions, and ways of working sustained over time.
