From plate to jewel — from memory to story.

During Gent Fest, Galerie Pont & Plas opens its doors for *Windows of Design*, a special collaboration with the Design Museum marking their grand reopening celebration.

On display: the intriguing work of Gésine Hackenberg (DE/NL) and her iconic *Kitchen Jewelry*.

Since 2001, Gésine has been transforming everyday ceramic plates and bowls into unique trinkets and pieces of jewelry. A familiar piece of tableware—sometimes a plate thought lost, sometimes a cherished family heirloom—gains an unexpected new life as a wearable work of art.

She drills into the ceramic, yet she does not destroy the past. Quite the opposite. The original plate remains visible, with its colors, patterns, and memories. The holes and cutouts become a new pattern, a new skin, a new meaning.

From utilitarian object to precious piece.
From table to body.
From memory to contemporary design.

Gésine invites us to look differently at the things around us. At what we keep. At what we wear. And at the stories objects carry with them.

Perhaps that is precisely the power of jewelry: it only becomes truly personal when it carries a piece of history with it.

And who knows… perhaps there is a plate in your home, too, waiting for a second life. ✨

Discover Gésine Hackenberg at Galerie Pont & Plas during Gent Fest / *Windows of Design*.

Aline in Wonderland, we love butterflies II

9.08.2026 – 12.09.2026

Silke Fleischer, Hartog & Hennenman, Karin Johansson, Jutta Klingebiel, Meeree Lee, Märta Mattsson, Sophia Oberhauser, Kathleen Reilly, Philip Sajet, Aline Vandeplas, Karen Vanmol & Rio Yamamoto.

After months of preparation, it is truly special to see the artworks and the artists come together. ✨

A heartfelt thank you to all the visitors and artists at the opening and exhibition for your presence, enthusiasm, and wonderful energy. It means the world to Galerie Pont en Plas. ❤️

It feels like a true symbiosis of ideas, visions, and stories. Now, above all: time to enjoy all this

A world of transformation, imagination, and nature in artistic form.

In *Aline in Wonderland – We Love Butterflies II*, the butterfly takes center stage as a powerful symbol of change, transience, and renewed beauty.

The exhibition takes visitors on a poetic journey where art, nature, and imagination converge.

The artworks blend geometric forms with inspiration drawn from nature. Materials such as wood, stone, metal, pearls, ... and color take on new meaning in objects that feel both fragile and powerful. Sculptural creations invite the audience to look, explore, and be moved.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the works convey a message about biodiversity. Butterflies and insect life are presented as vital links in the natural balance. The exhibition encourages a fresh perspective on the everyday and on the hidden beauty that often goes unnoticed.

*Aline in Wonderland – We Love Butterflies II* is an invitation to embrace a sense of wonder. Each piece tells a story of transformation, reminding us that change is not only inevitable but also a source of beauty and hope.

I began collecting contemporary jewellery while I was still a student. Back then, I mostly bought smaller pieces and pins. Simply because that was what I could afford. 😊

Over the years, the collection has grown and evolved, piece by piece, reflecting different moments, discoveries, and passions along the way.

I'm excited to see where this journey will lead next. Even today, every time I look at our collection, it brings me the same sense of wonder and excitement as it did in the beginning.😁

Jewellery by Duo Wonder, Sarah Reynders, Eva Schrooten, Carolina Apolonia, Gésine Hackenberg, Koen Jacobs, Laila Marie Costa, Jiye Yun, Hester Daems, Karen Pontoppidan, Angela Ponce, Mareen Alburg Duncker, Robert Thomas Mullen, Roosa Ila, Liina Lelov, Panjapol Kulp, Helena Renner, Laura Leyt.

PERSONAL ARCHEOLOGIES
A five-day intensive workshop held by Ela Bauer and Gésine Hackenberg supported by MASieraad *, situated at Ravenstein in the Dutch countryside.
The workshop is rooted in the idea that identity is fragmented and layered, much like an archaeological dig site. Just as archaeologists interpret history through buried, broken or preserved artifacts, we too can explore our sense of self through remnants: objects, memories, rituals and absences.
Personal Archeologies encourages participants to explore questions such as: what materials do we carry with us from our ancestry, culture, gender, place, or different periods in time? Which artefacts of the self are real, performed or imagined? Where do these categories blur? How do these personal narratives relate to the body and to jewelry?
The workshop is based on a step-by-step process, focusing on personal development rather than the completion of a final object.
PERSONAL ARCHEOLOGIES offers tools to deepen one's visual language and to approach one's practice from a renewed perspective.
Workshop instructors:
Ela Bauer and Gésine Hackenberg
Assistant: Sophia Zobel
Supported by MASieraad
Dates: August 10-14, 2026.
Languages: English, German, Dutch.

INSTANT CLASSICS at Hannah Gallery
Brooch: Pink Balancing Glass by Gésine Hackenberg, 2015.
Glass by Theresienthal, silver.
From series: Still-lives
Unique piece. Work designed for Klimt02 Gallery for the exhibition 'To Recover' in 2015.

The background softly recedes, drawing the gaze toward the object — creating intimacy, inviting us to look closer, beyond the rhythm of everyday life. Like a still life painter, Gésine Hackenberg, through her Still-lives series, cuts, dissects, and recomposes vintage glassware into delicate wearable miniatures. Fragments of past lives settle into quiet compositions.

'Objects of everyday life and domestic materials become a language to express and reflect emotions.' Says the artist.

Reinterpreting classical genres, Gésine elevates humble, often overlooked objects into precious jewellery. The body becomes the canvas, carrying these contemporary still lifes into movement and presence.
