Short attention spans. Chatty kids. A group that’s starting to lose focus. 😅

So what do you do?

Todd shares one of his fail-safe coaching strategies, turn it into a relay.

It keeps kids moving, gives them a reason to pay attention, and creates a little positive team accountability without the coach having to constantly redirect everyone.

Sometimes the best behavior strategy isn’t asking kids to sit still and listen harder, it’s designing the class so they want to stay engaged.

🎙️ Bre & Todd Podcast, Common Questions, Episode 1

For preschool, kids, teens, coaches, teachers, parents, and anyone helping kids move.

☕ Todd-approved strategy, probably coffee-powered.

What do you do when kids just… do NOT listen? 😅

If you coach kids, teach kids, or have kids, you’ve probably been there.

In Common Questions, Episode 1, we talk about what to do when you feel like you’ve explained something 10 times and no one is listening, without making the answer “just yell louder.” 😂

We get into attention, expectations, how we communicate, keeping kids engaged, and what actually works in a kids fitness class.

And this is just ONE of the questions we tackle in Episode 1, covering preschool, kids + teens and the real situations coaches, teachers, and parents run into.

One class. A HUGE range of ages, abilities, experience, attention spans, and confidence levels. 😅

So how do you coach all of them at the same time without making it chaos?

In Part 1 of our Common Questions episode, we talk about coaching the kid in front of you, scaling the challenge instead of the experience, and creating a class where the littlest kid and the most experienced teen can both feel successful.

Because the goal isn’t for every kid to do the exact same thing.

It’s for every kid to be appropriately challenged, have fun, and leave feeling successful. 💛

How do you actually program a great kids CrossFit or fitness class? 👀

In Part 1 of our Common Questions episode, we break down how we think about programming for kids, from choosing movements and skills to building a class that keeps kids engaged, moving, learning, and having fun.

The goal isn’t just to shrink an adult workout. It’s to create something developmentally appropriate that kids can be successful with, while still giving them opportunities to learn and progress.

🎙️ Jump to 1:05 to hear us break it down.

🐉 Dragon Tails or Dodgeball, which one are you picking?!

One of our favorite things about movement games is that the same game can work for preschoolers, kids, teens AND adults, you just change how you coach it, scale it, and set the rules.

In our newest Common Questions episode, we break down some of our favorite games, including Dragon Tails + Dodgeball, and how we actually use them in classes.

🎧 Jump to 28:30 to hear the conversation, and listen to the full episode for more coaching tips, scaling ideas, behavior strategies, age appropriate programming, and ways to make movement FUN.

And if you need even more ideas, check out our Movement Game PDF with 100+ games you can pull from for classes, PE, after school programs, camps, or just getting kids moving.

Because sometimes the best programming idea is simple, PLAY.

3 coaching tips worth saving ⬇️

1. WAIT FOR 100%: don’t start teaching until every eye is on you.
2. END WITH THE GAME: let them just be kids. Coaches… play too.
3. JOIN THEM: struggling kid? Do the air squat WITH them.

Jessie Rangel’s best teaching gold from this week’s episode of The Bre & Todd Podcast, from years of coaching kids through Organización de Amigos. 🎙️

Ending with a game isn’t just “extra time” at the end of class. 🎯

For Coach Jessie, it’s a non-negotiable.

Kids remember how class made them feel. Ending with something fun gives them a chance to play, connect, laugh, move, and leave wanting to come back.

And the best part? You can still coach movement, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and fitness through play.

🎙️ Hear Jessie Rangel share more of her practical coaching strategies on The Bre & Todd Podcast.
