Fireside Stories ✨

There’s something magical about evenings spent around a campfire. The warmth on your face, sparks floating into the night sky, stories shared, and laughter echoing across the water. Those moments when time seems to stand still and you wish the night could last just a little longer.

Fireside Stories is about those memories that stay with us. The people, places, and traditions that bring us back, year after year.

It’s also at the heart of Rooted — the idea that our connection to the land is shaped not just by its beauty, but by the moments we experience there. The stories we share become part of the places we love, rooting us to them in ways that last a lifetime. ❤️

You Again 40 x 40 is part of my stencil series. I have created a stencil of a man and a woman wearing overcoats and walking. I used stencils with patterns to indicate individuality within each of the figures. Yet they’re all very similar in so many other ways.
Looking for that unique someone can be challenging!
You Again celebrates the comfort we feel in finding someone just like ourselves. And the frustration in finding someone…just like ourselves.

Available through Gibson Fine Art in Calgary AB. @gibsonfineart

Forage 🌲🍂

Inspired by the little treasures scattered across the forest floor. Pinecones, evergreen branches, and fallen leaves, all woven together in a playful mix of paint and embroidery.

I love how the embroidered details bring an extra layer of texture to this piece, almost like a vintage botanical wallpaper come to life.

Cascade 🌿

Acrylic and embroidery on canvas | 60” × 48” | 2026

There’s something mesmerizing about the movement of water through a forest. The way it tumbles over rocks, catches the light, and carves its own path through the landscape.

In Cascade, I wanted to capture that sense of movement while contrasting it with the quiet stillness of the surrounding forest. Subtle textile-inspired patterns are woven throughout the landscape, bringing together the natural world and the traditions of handmade craft.

I love creating paintings that invite you to look a little closer, where familiar landscapes slowly reveal unexpected details.

Wonder | 54” × 54” | Acrylic on canvas | 2026

There’s something about being surrounded by mountains that makes you feel so small, yet so connected to the world around you.

I wanted this painting to capture that feeling of wonder. The quiet stillness of an alpine lake, the towering peaks, and the way the landscape reflects back on itself. Those moments in nature when you find yourself stopping, taking it all in, and feeling completely in awe of what’s around you.

This piece was such a joy to bring to life, slowly building up layers of colour, texture, and detail to capture the beauty and grandeur of the Canadian Rockies.

Wonder is part of Rooted, my latest collection on display at Gibson Fine Art until November 5th!

If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, I would love for you to stop by and experience the collection in person. There are so many little details, textures, and intricacies that photographs simply can’t capture. These paintings really are meant to be seen up close. 🌲✨

This painting almost didn’t make it into Rooted. I was up embroidering at 2 a.m. and finishing edges at 6 a.m., but I’m so glad I pushed through because it’s become one of my favourite pieces in the collection. ❤️

The inspiration came from a patchwork quilt at the end of my bed, handmade by my great Nanny Ethel Higdon. She saved scraps of fabric from sewing clothes and other projects, piecing together what she had to create something beautiful and practical. It’s one of many quilts passed down through our family, and I feel so lucky to have it.

I’ve always loved the resourcefulness behind these quilts. Making something beautiful out of very little, taking the time to create by hand, and turning humble materials into something treasured for generations.

I wanted to bring my two homes together in this piece. The barn, inspired by one near Strathmore, represents my life in Alberta, while the quilt brings a little piece of my Newfoundland roots into the landscape.

To me, this painting captures the heart of Rooted: the places we come from, the traditions we carry with us, and the beauty in ordinary things.

It feels especially fitting that it’s the first piece you see when you walk into Gibson Fine Art. ✨

Interwoven
48” × 60” | Acrylic & embroidery on canvas | 2026

This painting holds a particularly special memory for me. It was inspired by a photograph I took on my very first hike with Drew and the kids in Kananaskis, a day spent exploring the forest and making memories together.

When creating Interwoven, I wanted to capture that feeling of being completely immersed in nature. The warmth of sunlight filtering through the trees, the richness of the forest floor, and the quiet beauty of a place that feels almost like you could step right into it.

But there’s another layer to this piece that might not be obvious at first glance.

Throughout the landscape, I’ve subtly incorporated patches of textile-inspired patterns, as though pieces of a quilt have been woven into the forest itself. They’re little details that reveal themselves only when you come closer and spend time exploring the painting.

I love the idea of a quilt as something made from individual pieces, each with its own story, coming together to create something whole. In many ways, that felt like a fitting reflection of the memory behind this painting, and the way our lives and experiences become interwoven over time.

My hope is that this piece invites you to linger a little longer, discover something new with every look, and feel the warmth of that afternoon in the woods. 🌿
