79 Days Later…

Rest in peace, Gigi 🐾💔

I have had many incredible animals in my life who have given me unconditional love when I needed it most. But Gigi was different. She was part of my world long before we officially saved her. I watched her whenever I could, and when her previous owner realized she needed a serious change and a life without neglect, we opened our door to her. We were not even looking for a pet. Life was already busy, but she was meant to find her forever home with us.

At first, she was unsure. She missed her previous owner and stayed loyal in the only way she knew how. Over time, she attached herself to Davide, and then one day, she decided she could not breathe air without me. She searched for me everywhere and needed to have me in her sight. I have never felt an animal love me back the way she did. I could feel it every day and every one could see it.

Today, we decided to end her suffering. She fought like hell, and ultimately her cancer won. She refused to walk down the hallway without me, staring at me as they guided her to get ready. I have never felt heartbreak like this one, four days before her sixth birthday. She was still such a baby and deserved so much more life. All we can do is pause and be grateful that we were able to experience a love like this, and that we were able to provide her with a safe and loving home.

I know She She was anxiously waiting for your arrival. You have a whole family of our loved ones up there who will keep you safe until we meet again. 💔

A big thank you to @massvethospital for giving our @gigithecreature the best care possible. ❤️‍🩹

Day #19 of documenting my terminally ill baby @gigithecreature ❤️‍🩹

@ziochapo999 and I are closely monitoring g’s symptoms and looking into everything we can to improve the quality of her life. She stopped drinking water about two days ago, but she is eating her food with a big appetite. Adding water to that is working, she is liking lactose free milk, and bone broth as well. 🙃

Day 14!!! ❤️‍🩹

The past two weeks have been filled with tears, hugs, and a lot of love as our little family of four soaks up every second together. It is so hard to put into words how devastating this time is. Each day feels like Groundhog Day and we are just wishing for things not to get worse.

She has her first bloodwork this Thursday. She has lost a lot of weight, but her appetite is still so strong! Continuing to pray for a miracle.

Paul Revere Park might just be one of the most underrated spots in Boston. Tucked right under the Zakim, it has wide open green space, riverfront views, and plenty of room for your pup to explore. A little slice of calm right in the middle of the city.

hold your loved ones a little closer. We truly never know what tomorrow may bring, and it’s so easy to get lost in the endless cycle of life. These past few weeks I’ve had to stop and remind myself how blessed I am to feel love this deeply.

Although there might be a crack, I’m still choosing to look toward the light, because as Leonard Cohen wrote, “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.”

We thought a little sister might help keep @gigithecreature feeling younger and that a piece of her would rub off on baby Wonka.

Wonka is only 8 weeks old and she came from Connecticut.
