🦢✨ A few glimpses from our last Swan & Scribble session at Ballajura Library 📚📖

✍🏾 It’s been such a joy watching this little poetry group grow each time we meet. People arrive with curiosity, nerves, stories, notebooks, half-thoughts, and quiet sparks, and somehow, by the end, there are poems in the room 📜

🌈⛅ We read, write, listen, laugh, and surprise ourselves a little. That’s the best part 🌸🌿

🫶🏾 Our next session is coming up soon. If you’re free, come join us. No experience needed, just a willingness to play with words and see where they take you 👈🏾

🗓️ Saturday 13 June
⏰ 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm
📍 Ballajura Public Library
🎟️ Register via the link in my bio

🧘🏾‍♀️ Come, sit with us and see what arrives 📝

Yesterday we gathered for the Eungedup book launch by Giles Watson @giles.watson.7 an evening shaped by poetry, song, and reflection, held in relationship with the Eungedup Wetlands.

The wetlands, purchased and cared for by community, formed the quiet ground of the evening; a living presence of water, birds, and seasonal rhythm that could be felt through the poems and conversations shared.

Shaun Ossinger spoke about the role of the Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee @wilsoninletcatchment in the purchase and ongoing care of the wetlands, sharing the story of community-led stewardship that makes Eungedup’s protection possible.

A moving song performed by Simone Keane @simonekeanemusic honoured places that have been damaged or lost, while reminding us that this will not be the story of Eungedup.

With gratitude to Giles for sharing with us his experience and relationship with Eungedup. The book sold out at the launch, and we’ll be ordering more copies for purchase at DEC.

Thanks also to all who came together to mark the launch of this book, and to reflect on what it means when care for place is shared, intentional, and enduring.

The Arbour is up on bandcamp today 🍃📝

This song came out of the Middle of the Air competition hosted by @redroompoetry and @abcradionational. Thank you to all who submitted lyrics. It was a joy to set this lovely nature poem by Giles Watson to music. Any proceeds will go to BirdLife Australia.

Thank you Jesse for recording the song and for performing the piano solo and bass parts.

Thank you @redroompoetry for involving me ☀️

Vale Ron Siemiginowski.

In 2018 I sat at a piano with Ron, who was writing a musical called “Mimma” with librettist Giles Watson. He wanted me to be his leading leady. He wrote the music for my voice and was the kindest, generous and talented man. I helped to bring his “Mimma” to life and it was a joy to create this character. We performed it in 2019 with huge plans to tour it nationally and internationally but alas, Covid happened! So sorry to hear of his passing. I will never forget him. Scroll on to see Giles has written a beautiful poem about Ron. 🕊️
