i think i’m going to start trying to capture gigs in this way because it’s a nice snapshot of time. of history. today hearing @eltipo79 and playing along with the amazing trumpet section of @gilevansproject reminded me that the history of this music is still being made each day, whenever people are gathering together to play. how awesome is it to play gil’s music and hear so many of my heroes and friends multiple days in a row. grateful to share the back row with @danurness @gracefoxtrpt @jheim_nyc @augiehaas at @thepocketnyc

Such an honor to have played with @gilevansproject all week at Birdland!
I listened to Gil and Miles’ Porgy and Bess album to death in high school, so getting to play Gil’s restored original manuscripts with this incredible band was such a privilege. Six sets of Sketches of Spain and four sets of Porgy and Bess in five days 🔥 #milesdaviscentennial

Reminder, since you asked, that it does not suck to live in a place where one can pop over to Birdland on a Friday night and catch a world class jazz ensemble playing charts from Gil Evans’ original manuscripts of the legendary and transcendent Porgy and Bess. And Riley Mulherkar in the Miles Davis role… freaking outstanding. Bravo Ryan Truesdell.

I am incredibly grateful to have played with @jazzdotorg Orchestra this week celebrating Miles Davis at 100. @rgrboccato and I were recruited for Solea from Sketches of Spain, but the program featured expertly-performed works from Miles Ahead and Porgy and Bess as well. I was warmly welcomed by everyone, including the singular @obedcalvaire. What an amazing band and organization!

Celebrating Miles Davis’ centennial in NYC with @gilevansproject at @birdlandjazz. I’ll be there on Friday, May 29th to play the role of Miles on Porgy and Bess, my favorite record of all time.
