POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Indigo has released its Top 100 Books of 2026 and we are thrilled to see Gillian Deacon’s A LOVE AFFAIR WOTH THE UNKNOWN on the list!

“Gill―high level of comfort with uncertainty,” a producer once noted. But Gill Deacon’s comfort level is put to the test over the course of an illness that is as mysterious as it is debilitating. During this time of not knowing, Deacon investigates the nature of uncertainty itself and demonstrates how we can choose to draw on our innate resilience and learn to thrive in an ever-changing world. She reminds us that, like comedy improvisation and jazz music, beautiful things can result from the unpredictable and unplanned. While providing evidence of the beauty in not knowing, she makes a clear and compelling case that uncertainty is a condition we are built for. In fact, our best shot at creativity, innovation, and human connection occurs when we radically embrace the uncertainty we habitually struggle against.

This thoughtful examination of uncertainty by a warm and wise fellow traveller is a balm that can soothe us in troubling times.

Gillian Deacon is represented by Samantha Haywood.

Congratulations, Gillian!

Last week I posted my hope for a good life for Jane Doe after she was assaulted at Cornell. I still feel that way. The text messages by the Cornell men show unequivocally that they were treating her body as a banquet burger when she was entitled to respect as a human being. Evidence like this was never presented during the allegations of rape made about Steven Galloway in 2015 because both parties had signed NDA’s. In a case like this, it’s even more important that a fair process is held before vigilante justice takes over the algorithms. If men aren’t entitled to due process that weakens women’s valid claims for justice for sexual assault victims. Galloway’s defamation trial started last week after an eight year delay. He’s suing his accuser for claiming he raped her. Known as AB, his accuser has withdrawn truth as a justification for her defence, an action the trial judge says may be seen as an admission of Galloway’s innocence. Over eight of the defendants who backed AB’s claims have apologized or settled out of court. The defamation trial resumes Tuesday Oct 23 in Vancouver.

Two days ago, a famous US writer emailed me to say how much she loved my latest book, my memoir Big Girls Don’t Cry. She sounded sincere, but a tad formal. There were tinny echos of the emails from numerous fraudsters who write me and other writers regularly offering to promote our books to their fabulous reading communities. For a fee, of course. Not the alleged famous American writer. She said she was going to write a review of my book in Good Reads. And then she did what she said. Is she a fake? Tune in next time and I’ll tell you how the saga unfolds. (There’s a lesson here for all of us creators so hungry for praise.
