Be realistic.
How many times have you heard that?

About your career. Your ambitions. Your body. Your age. The things you want that don’t quite fit the life you’ve already built.
And sometimes, it’s good advice.

But sometimes “being realistic” is just a socially acceptable way of talking ourselves out of something we’re afraid to try.

When I decided to get back into Olympic sailing at 40, there were a hundred perfectly reasonable arguments against it.
I had two young kids. A career. Responsibilities. And a nearly 20-year gap in elite competition.

I knew the odds.

I just wasn’t ready to let them make the decision for me.

Two years later, I’ve competed at a World Championship, raced against Olympians, and discovered parts of myself I genuinely didn’t know were still there.

Has it been harder than I imagined? Absolutely.

Have I had to reconsider what this dream can reasonably cost? Yes.

But I’m glad I didn’t decide the ending before I even started.
Because sometimes the point isn’t proving that the impossible is possible.

It’s finding out what you’re capable of when you finally give yourself a chance.

What have you been telling yourself isn’t realistic?

🏁 One last round in the Daniel Ricciardo Series! 🏎️

My final appearance in the series, and what a place to do it — @silverstonecircuit home of the 🇬🇧 British Grand Prix, racing on their fantastic Grand Prix Karting Circuit!

I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got and aiming to finish the series on a high. 💪🏁

A big thank you to my sponsors for making this possible, and to everyone who follows and supports my journey. It really means a lot.

One final push, then onto the next chapter! 📖🏎️

Falmouth Sailing Week Nick Gill Cup - Overall Youth Helm 2026 🏆

On Saturday 17th October, @flushing_sailing_club hosted a very special prize-giving: the presentation of the Nick Gill Cup for Overall Youth Helm at Falmouth Sailing Week 2026 to Ted Pugh, who was just 12 years old. He was joined by his brother and crew, Rupert Pugh aged 10!

Unfortunately, a mix-up at the FSW prize-giving meant the pair missed out on collecting their prize on the day. Hopefully the crowd cheering them on at Flushing in this special event more than made up for it, and even the sun came out to join in ☀️

Ted and Rupert are definitely ones to watch in their Mirror, Neptune. They’ll be competing at the Mirror Nationals at Restronguet in June ‘27 and the Mirror Worlds at Poole in July ‘27, and everyone at the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association wishes them every success 💙

🚨Event Update🚨

After meeting with race teams and an in-depth review of the forecast for the weekend, the event team have taken the decision to cancel the Autumn Championships.

This is to ensure the safety of the fleet, with concerns around travelling to the event on Friday night and a rough sea state expected to create extra complication on Saturday.

More information can be found on the class WhatsApp Groups. We wish everyone a good weekend despite Storm Austen, and look forward to trying again at our End of Season Champs in a few weeks🚀

Light winds, a long weekend offshore and plenty of teamwork aboard MWF Kayle! ⛵️

Our crew took on the 260-nautical-mile Tollgate Islands Race, organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia as part of the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore.

Starting on Friday 16 October, the course took the fleet south from Sydney to the Tollgate Islands off Batemans Bay and back. Light and shifting winds made for a slow, demanding race, with Kayle eventually retiring due to time constraints.

Thank you to our crew for their commitment and to the CYCA for another opportunity to represent Making Waves Foundation offshore.

Every outing carries our purpose: changing lives through sailing. 💙

Captured by our ambassador James Mayo who spectated the start of the race!
