Step into Chapter Five of our home remodel: The Boys Bunk Room.

When Tyson and I started dreaming about this room, one thing felt especially important to us: creating a space where the boys could grow up together.

Dax, River & Crew are so close in age, and I love knowing that some of their most ordinary childhood moments will happen right here—talking across their bunks when they should be sleeping, reading, laughing, playing, saying prayers together and waking up in the same room each morning.

So when I designed the Boys Bunk Room, I wanted the room itself to become part of those memories. The custom built-in bunks give each boy a space of his own, while the deep green color drenching, plaid @york_wallcoverings wallpaper, @beddysbeds bedding and layers of nautical details create this warm, collected little world around them.

But my favorite pieces are the ones that tell our family’s story—Tyson’s childhood trophies and Boy Scout uniform, the vintage rug we found while living in Italy, collected artwork and a little sailboat Tyson and I bought as newlyweds for the children we hoped we would someday have.

Those are the layers that make this room so much more than a beautifully designed space to me. It’s the backdrop to their childhood, and I hope someday they look back and remember just how special it was to grow up here together.

Long live boyhood. 🤎

Old + new

A new bathroom feels best when it connects to the space around it. 🏺 A 1950s French vanity chair and a vintage Oushak runner bring the age, and custom white oak paneling and a Denver-made mirror keep the lines clean.

When it came to designing Sailor’s room, I wanted every decision to feel intentional, but never so serious that we lost the playfulness of childhood. It was about finding that balance between pieces that can grow with her and details that celebrate exactly who she is right now—from the whimsical Rifle Paper Co. x York Wallcoverings wallpaper to the cozy Beddy’s bedding layered into her castle bed.

That meant letting her personality lead, making room for imagination, and looking for ways to make the space feel unique to her.

Swipe through for a few of my favorite design notes from Sailor’s room, then head to the House Sprucing blog for the full Behind the Design, where I’m sharing more of the thought process, details + design tips that brought this room together.

A few more of my favorite views from the happiest little room.
It’s colorful, playful, a little unexpected and filled with so many details that make me smile.

We used York Wallcoverings to bring in the sweetest layer of pattern, and Beddy’s Monroe Collection was such a fun finishing touch for Sailor’s room.

But the best part will always be watching Sailor actually live in it—playing, creating, making messes and making it hers.

Exactly how a little girl’s room should be.

A little color, a little whimsy + a whole lot of personality. 🎀

Blue-gray linen, walnut, woven cane, and wool bring a softer rhythm to the formal bones of the room - with a pair of 1960s stools adding just enough age to keep everything from feeling too polished.

It’s the mix of old and new that gives a room its sense of belonging. 🪑🕰️

The kind of mail that makes us stop in our tracks and leaves us speechless 🤎🪻🪺

A huge THANK YOU to our friends at @ginger.sparrow for thinking of Devaughn Design and sending us the most gorgeous collection of your timeless textiles. Every pattern, texture, and colorway feels so intentional, beautifully bespoke, layered, and designed for spaces that feel collected rather than simply decorated.

We’re already envisioning these throughout future projects and truly cannot wait to partner together. There’s something special about discovering brands whose work aligns so naturally with the homes we love to create centered around Hygge.

Safe to say, we’re obsessed. Now we just need to decide which one gets specified first. 🤍

Sunday swatches, anyone?
We love a print. We love a stripe. We really just love a fabric that gives a room a little more personality.

A few currently on our minds (and in our projects) for the first edition of Curated by Costera. Consider this a peek inside the sample pile. There’s a lot more where these came from…

My dining table has officially disappeared beneath layers of fabric, wallpaper, and upholstery samples as I finalize furnishings selections for our new studio. The best kind of mess 🤍
