Kaiju K.O. is almost finished with its successful Kickstarter campaign!

I enjoyed playing this with my son recently and with the designers back in the fall.

Each turn you roll your two dice to place a random artifact on the grid. These become possible targets. The player who gets to them first takes two cards and gets to keep one and give one, or chose to discard both. These cards will either help you in an attack or give you an ongoing bonus power based on the artifact color.

Each player has two each of three Kaiju types. Each type has an advantage over one type and a disadvantage to the other type kind of like rock paper scissors. The advantage is having an extra die to roll during battles. It’s not quite that simple because there are many abilities and bonuses on the cards to affect the odds. You keep these advantages in mind as you choose to move towards your opponents Kaiju to attack.

With the designers, we had one battle where I first rolled two dice, double ones and still won the battle to a single one roll. It was fun in the process. It certainly didn’t hurt that the designers are great company.

With my son, I may have won both times but he caught up from behind and gave me a run for my money before getting squashed!

The game involves strategy, luck of dice and mitigation of luck with cards both public and hidden abilities.

All this boils down to a fun two player battle game.

I also had a chance to pose with @60minutegamer when he had a copy and with @gingermeeple when I passed the prototype copy on to her.

This was a prototype copy so some things are changing like colors, art updates, and card tweaks.

Definitely worth checking out on Kickstarter to see if this is your kind of game.

Only one disqualification this week — my own desperate answer of “eaves” as a way to get from here to there. I didn’t appreciate eaves are simply the part of a roof that hangs over & according to the internet, they are not strong enough to walk on (certainly not enough to travel anywhere). I also initially disqualified “kites” in this category until someone specified “kite surfing” & another person also guessed kites. 😂

Outer Space from @professorpuzzleltd is a budget friendly small box game I picked up at Barnes and Noble a little while ago. It utilizes square cards to make a tile laying game with a race for the most points in a shared Galaxy.

It wasn’t the favorite of the day but I think I want to play again with my kids using some of the different scoring options. Connections, which is one of the three it says to use for your first game, kind of felt like we were just getting points for things we were doing anyway.

The score track is basic but I think appropriate for such an affordable price point. Shows $12.99 on US Amazon today. Cards are nice quality.

I was interested in trying this game because it has a little bit of an Orchard (9 Card Solitaire) type vibe in a multiplayer game.

You overlay or place adjacent cards matching star types in a row, overlaying black holes, making connections of paths, etc..

My favorite part was yelling across the room, “I got a super massive black hole.” Yelling this wasn’t actually part of the rule set 😅. Overlaying a third black hole results in more points and flipping over the card to block that area with a super massive black hole.

🎄 Day 19: Legacy on the Line 🚂

We’re one game away from crowning a winner in Ticket to Ride: Legacy by @daysofwonder and what a journey it’s been! Unveiling the map piece by piece has been a blast. I can’t wait to see who claims the title of ultimate railroad tycoon (me? Unlikely—but I’m excited to finally sit down and write my review!)

As winter sets in and the snow starts to pile up, there’s nothing better than hibernating with good friends, drinks, grubs, and board games. This campaign has reignited my love for legacy experiences—I’ve played Pandemic Legacy, Gen7, and My City, but what’s next? I’m all eyes for recommendations!

Beanie likes to HIBERNATE with a good book, but failing that a good puzzle! And recently she’s been really enjoying the print at home puzzles by @inkandclues

She’s worked her way through all the Detective Paws mysteries (which involved a cute doggie who solves mysteries around his home), and then tried the first in the new Alicia series. She enjoyed all of them, but prefers the Alicia ones as she found the story more engaging and she liked the puzzles! She also really enjoyed the historical setting of the Alicia puzzle.

These are nice little puzzle stories for children. At 8 Beanie found the puzzles on the easier side , so I think they are ideal for a slightly younger child. There is a lot of reading involved though, Beanie loved it but a younger child would need to share these with a grownup. So a nice little puzzle to do together!

These worked really well to keep her occupied whilst I put her brother to bed, and she was sorry when she finished them. We are looking forward to the full Alicia series being released and I quite fancy trying the adult ones myself!
