Solidarity in action makes a difference.

When seafood workers in New Bedford took a stand against illegal wage theft, extortion, and retaliation, their community showed up with them in court—and the judge ruled in their favor, rejecting the company's attempt to force the case into secretive arbitration.

While this is a major victory for Diaz Perez et. al. v. Marder et. al., the fight for full justice, unpaid overtime, and damages continues. MIC is proud to stand alongside Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores @cct_newbedford (CCT), @justice_at_work, Grassroots Law and Organizing for Workers (GLOW) @glo4workers, Workers' Law Office, @masscosh, and the @hyamsfoundation in supporting these workers.

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in our first Worker Symposium: Worker Rights Fair!👷‍♂️👩‍💼👩‍⚕️👨‍🏭

Illinois Workers in Action connected with workers, unions, legal experts, and community organizations for a day of learning, action, and resources. Attendees explored the job fair, met local labor unions during the panel, participate in a resume workshop, and access the food pantry.

We heard from Glow and Chaad who discussed a brief overview of current workers' rights and a Chicago success story of local restaurant workers who organized, enforced their rights, and won. & One fair wage informed us about putting an end to all subminimum wages in Chicago, Illinois, and the United States, and raising wages and improving working conditions in the service sector in particular.

Thank you to @chaadproject @glo4workers @onefairwageil for participating for in our panels. Thank you to the organization that tabled and gave out resources @teamworkenglewood_ , @las.chicago, @thenetworkaadv, and d&d foundation.

Thank you to @imancentral for hosting us and allowing us to use their beautiful space ❤️

Lastly thank you to our staff and interns who made this event possible 👏 A big shout out to our Program Supervisor, Kevin who coordinatored this event and made it possible ❤️

We'll see you 🫵in our next worker symposium 👀
