. . . Love in the times of Terror: Bringing The Body and Self to the Work We Do! “Terror”, for those of us living in parts of Northeast of India as well as a diaspora across the country, has been inscribed on our skin and our lives as the “normal”. Be it the institutionalised violence by the Indian Nation State since the merger of the region into the erstwhile country or for that matter the traditions of ethnic war amongst the thousands of tribes residing in the region to mark a territorial claim over land, identity and dignity, we say, “Yes It Is inscribed on our skin”. Added to it, the projections of mainland indian imagination of us, on us, that strip us of ourselves. And then as queer and trans, traditional confines that tear our skin off us. These are no more a fear we run from but a world we inhabit and navigate everyday. We call upon the continent and the world to see us and bear witness to us. See us, the way we love in the times of terror! Witness us, adorned in shades and drapes of beauty and as a beast. Exoticised and shunned, by the land that tries and hoard us as theirs while our kin becomes the monster we fear. Vulnerability and disabilities abound, arising out of conflicts and violence that never seems to go away but hover upon us as the very sky under which we are born, a simple act of us choosing an ethnic drape and role of duty within our own fold holds the power of a storm that chastises our centuries old tradition with a certain truth - that we are pretty much a birthing from within its brooding. Or for that matter such an act of choosing often takes the shape of a knife - a weapon closely associated to victories and defeats of thousands of wars that was raged as well as that continues to hover right outside our window as we sleep at night. A choice becoming a weapon that can cut skin, ties, lifes as well as paradoxes and hypocrisy brooding in the multiple truths that reigned and reigns over us. Quién decide el futuro de un territorio: quienes lo habitan o quienes lo ven como una oportunidad de inversión? ¿Qué significa hablar de una ciudad sustentable si su desarrollo pone en cuestión la protección de las dunas y el bosque nativo, la participación ciudadana y el acceso democrático a las decisiones sobre el territorio? No a +Colonia / No a Praxis es una comunidad autoconvocada de vecinas y vecinos del departamento de Colonia, junto a miles de personas de todo el país y mundo entero, que cuestiona el proyecto +Colonia y su asociación con Praxis. Su preocupación abarca mucho más que un proyecto inmobiliario: incluye la evaluación integral de sus impactos ambientales, las exoneraciones tributarias, los compromisos económicos con el departamento, la transparencia de los acuerdos secretos y el modelo de ciudad que se propone construir. Frente a esto, el colectivo plantea propuestas concretas: suspender las obras hasta que se conozcan públicamente sus dimensiones socioambientales y políticas, exigir una evaluación ambiental integral e independiente y garantizar la participación ciudadana en las instancias de decisión. Y están comunicandose con el artivismo. El futuro de Colonia no puede discutirse sin escuchar a quienes la habitan y protegen.
