Join MM for an intimate evening in collaboration with Gnarly Harley, the Destin-based artist whose work blends the Japanese tradition of Gyotaku with a lifelong connection to fishing, surfing, and the sea.

On Thursday, October 29, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, guests are invited to enjoy curated cocktails and bites while discovering Harley’s work, creative process, and the stories behind each piece.

Okaloosa Pier. The sign says stay 150 feet away.

As someone not from this area it’s hard to fully comprehend the situation. From my prospective there was some power tripping going on from the deputies. The surfers were just confused and asking what the issue was and why they were being hassled for simply surfing. No issues had happened with fishermen complaining about lines being in the way, nothing.

Deputies lit up the sirens from the shore and called everyone in. Lots of deputies, lots of people, and nobody really sure what was going on. In the middle of the confusion, one guy ended up in cuffs.

Surfers on the beach said they’ve been surfing this spot for years without any issue. The rule’s been there, but it hasn’t really been enforced. Locals here make a point of respecting the lifeguards, the deputies, and the pier.

No arrests. Warnings all around. Just an unfortunate day at a spot a lot of people care about and trying to enjoy the day.
