Glenn Wolfson passed away last night. He was a friend, a mentor, and teacher. A man of unassailable character he was one of the first people to call me to welcome me to the Drew Estate family when I got hired in the winter of 2016. I was bottles deep into Bourbon County Stouts, a kid they picked up from the streets with zero professional cigar experience. I knew I hit the jackpot and I let him know!!

A leader who could never be outworked he set the pace and raised the bar because he believed in you and knew you had his back. Glenn loved to challenge us but he always took the time to call after a meeting to say he appreciated us and our hard work.

Glenn was going to ride into the sunset this year with a long planned retirement. When asked why he chose to work with a ragtag band of wildings he said he stayed because he loved us. A man who was not afraid to cry in a meeting, an unforgettable character that left you in awe of his mastery - a winner through and through.

That will be Glenn's legacy at Drew Estate - he taught us how to win. I am heartbroken with the news of someone who I looked up to, who leveled me up and everyone around me. Glenn was a man of class and grace. He was famous for the Glenn Wolfson hostage hour - one of the few times he would pull out the CEO card to tell each and every one of us why he loved us.

I will miss ranting about how bad the Bears and the Cubs were, I will miss the legendary wine he was always willing to share and teach you about, a standard bearer that will live in our hearts as a measure of a man. A transformational character in all of our lives - grateful to have been graced by his command. We will live to honor your legacy and keep our winning ways.

On May 15th 2015, I stepped into the Drew Estate factory for the first time as a visitor on Cigar Safari and signed the wall. Nearly 10 years later and 8 years with the company, I had the privilege to go back to the factory with our employees who had been hired and never got the opportunity to experience our factory as employees.

There is nothing more magical than seeing the heart and soul of our company: our people. Whether it's Drew Estate Miami or Drew Estate Esteli, we come from shared values - service to our community of stakeholders, passion for our craft, and an inflexible discipline to deliver outstanding cigars and experiences.

The most meaningful part of the trip was hearing from our factory leadership team about the history of Drew Estate, where we came from, and the bright future we chase. We try to hold ourselves accountable to a high standard and deliver excellence every day - that's our culture.

I once felt that my greatest satisfaction working at Drew Estate was the ability to be part of a team in developing the next great cigar. It was a personal transformation to realize that the real meaning of the work meant that the people of our factory maintain their livelihoods and gain the opportunity to thrive. In this same vein, I know our Drew Estate Miami team has learned the lesson that our work is meaningful and serves a greater purpose. It was a trip that enriched our lives and a lesson we will never forget.
