My friend Alua Arthur over at @going_with_grace shared something recently about the anxiety she’s been experiencing since the sudden death of her friend Richard, and it struck such a chord with me.

After a significant loss, the world can suddenly feel much less safe. Our minds begin scanning for what might happen next, trying desperately to make sure we’re never blindsided again.

This is so common. In fact, it’s what led me to write an entire book about anxiety and grief.

If this is happening to you, I hope understanding why brings a little more compassion for what your mind and body are trying to do.

Sometimes anxiety is grief, too. 💛

And Alua, thank you for sharing your grief so openly, and for the beautiful work you do in the world.

I’m so excited to be back at @going_with_grace ! This Gifts of the Threshold workshop is very dear to me, because it is about being a support person in the midst of difficult family dynamics.

The death of a loved one is already difficult. Families often bring their best and their worst to the bedside. How can we hold steady in the storms? What is our scope of care? What if people are like, REALLY acting out? Let’s talk about it!

I just wrapped my Summit Prep meeting with Megan of @going_with_grace! We’re just two months out for an incredible weekend where 100 of us will share in community and space learning, loving, living with one another.

I will be presenting a talk about my personal and clinical experience of what I believe to be true, that “pleasure is the practice of life”. in @alualoveslife’s words, “it’s gonna be juicy!”

i will educate, define, explore, and weave in stories to help bring a (deeper?) understanding of what I mean in this bold statement. i look forward to sharing and collaborating with such brilliant, beautiful humans <3

Through @going_with_grace, Alua Arthur has helped transform the way we talk about death and also the way we understand grief. Her work reminds us that grief belongs not only to death, but to change itself: to endings, transitions, and the lives we thought we might have lived. “In every transition, even the joyful ones, there is grief.”

With Love by Elegy gives us another way to acknowledge the grief people are carrying rather than looking away from it. Choose a card, add your words and memories, invite others in, and send it whenever someone needs to know they’re being thought of. Because we can’t fix someone else’s grief. But we can remember it.
