POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Approaching the end of the annual Tour De Bronx at the New York Botanical Gardens, I saw my friend Erik standing in the rain with his camera ready. I pulled a can of beer out of my handlebar bag and the community affairs officer standing next to Erik started chanting "CHUG, CHUG, CHUG!"

We don’t all grow up with the same ideas about what it means to be healthy.

For @molinaflow , movement in her Dominican culture meant dancing. Running, going to the gym, and structured exercise weren’t necessarily part of the picture.

But, Annie found her own relationship with movement. Walking became running, running became joining @bronxsole , and a girl from the Bronx became someone who would run 33 miles at a time and hike 1,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

Her story shows us that health isn’t just about where we start, but what we’re exposed to, what we question, and what we discover about ourselves along the way.

Join Annie and Dr. Markyia Nichols as they dive deep into culture, community, movement, and finding your way forward on your health journey.

Where you live matters to your health. But, a zip code isn’t a diagnosis or a body type. And, it certainly doesn’t define what you’re capable of.

So, what does it mean to grow up in the Bronx and become an ultramarathon runner?

For Annie Molina, it started with walking and dancing. Eventually, it led to yoga, running, and 33-mile ultramarathons.

Today, Annie is an elementary school teacher, yoga instructor, and ultrarunner who has also hiked 1,000 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

But her story is about more than miles.

It’s about growing up in a community facing some of New York’s starkest health disparities.

It’s about family health history, learning to think differently about food and wellness, and finding a way forward through depression, body image challenges, and self-doubt.

On the latest episode of Health Under the Hood, Annie sits down with Dr. Maria Nichols for a deeply candid conversation about what shapes our health, and most importantly, what can change it for the better.

What I want to convey in this reel is community. The Bronx shows up, we show up for each other, and the energy and the love and the support this morning was proof that everything that we pour into each other, makes the Bronx one of the most special places in the world.
These people have become my family. Over the last 25 years of running, I have watched the run community explode and the theme through it all, is coming together, is bringing health & connection to all different communities.
I would like to ask the powers that be to extend next year’s Bronx Summer streets to more than just a 3 mile stretch. We deserve more than that.
Until then, we’re just gonna keep enjoying running the Bronx

We had a very special day today in the Bronx. It was the Bronx summer streets, and all of the Bronx teams came out to represent.
Today I got the opportunity to bring together my two passions, which is dance music, and Running. You will be sick of me today because I will be posting all the footage separately because the Bronx is beautiful, and it deserves its flowers 🌺

Capitulo 47: No better way to celebrate another year of life than running my fav 5K race the Percy Sutton Harlem 5k (the hills, the nostalgia of my CCNY days), long run & quality time with some of the people I love.

Thanks to all who contribute to my life daily with encouragement, support, love & hugs. I appreciate all the bday love messages.

As I grow one year wiser, I’ve learned that life is just one big hill to be respected, embraced, valued and to be climbed. As long as there are hills to be climbed, let there be life!
