13km was the plan… somehow we ended up doing 20km! 😂⛰️🏃‍♂️

Joined the UTGT (Ultra Trouble Gonzo Thunderbuns) Stage 4/6 social trail run in Hout Bay, Cape Town, tackling a section of the iconic Ultra-Trail Cape Town (UTCT) 100km route.

Starting in Hout Bay, the route takes us up Chapman's Peak towards Atlas Pools, then along the challenging Alfie's Path towards Vlakkenberg and Constantia Nek.

Steep climbs, technical trails, incredible mountain scenery and a whole lot of extra kilometres! 🔥

What started as a casual 13km social run turned into a proper 20km mountain adventure. Definitely one for the books!

Here's a little vlog of the experience, the trails and everything in between. 🎥

Anyone else ever gone out for a short trail run and ended up doing way more than planned? 😂

That wasn’t a run, that was putting my legs through the trenches. 😮‍💨

Platteklip, WTF actually. At the end I stopped fighting it, I walked and took note of all the little details around me, because when last did you CHOOSE to climb up a mountain. 🤣

Worth the pain. Livin.

Eight signs you or someone you know is deep in Lifesaving Worlds training. With 7 weeks to go hey…

And yes, Number 8 is the one I’m most committed to. 🌊✌️

Gonzo Runs Bucketlist: Day 2
Early to rise for our first real day in the French Alps. A stop at the Saturday Market on the way to the train station and we were ready 🥖👊🏻 The run - a beautiful circular easing us in to the altitude and what was to come in the next few days. Glacial lakes, Boinassy Suspension Bridge and a tough climb, made for a well deserved stop at the Buvette at the finish! After baguettes, beers and some rays we headed back to Chamonix, just in time to support our Boys against the All Blacks. Most were tucking into the Guinness and tequilas at the Irish Sports Pub, some were visiting the local hospital @mikehopkinsjnr , and some were enjoying Aperolis in the sun @julzybee ☀️🍹 After, with a win under the belt and what looked like 20 beers deep, we stumbled our way to burgers and bed. It’s a tough life out in the Alps, but someone’s gotta do it!

My brain at the top of Platteklip Gorge! 🤣 986m elevation in 13km… nahhhh 🤯

But the views were incredible. My first proper trail run… loved, I mean hated, no loved, mmm hated… no I loved it!! 🤣

Thank you @gonzoruns! If you keen for a trail, join one of their runs. My first time and the people were awesome!

Do you get to run more on a trail though? Asking for a friend? 🤷🏻‍♂️

**COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED**

Two entries to SkyRun. One is yours. The other is for whoever you'd trust at 3am on a mountain.

SkyRun is 100km, 65km or 38km along the Witteberg, and this year Fynbos Money is the presenting sponsor. We have two entries for the Gonzo community, and the winners choose their distance.

To enter:

1. Follow @fynbosmoney , @gonzoruns and @skyrunza
2. Tag the friend you'd take and tell us why it should be the two of you.

That's it. The Gonzo team is choosing the pair, so make your case count!

Entries close Thursday 8 October. Winners announced Monday 12 October. Race weekend is 14 and 15 November. Entries only, so getting there, staying there and the kit list are on you.
