Straightening your front leg through knee extension in a heel turn - when done right - will not actually move your weight back! Instead, what it should really promote is rotation of the hips into the turn! Try it right now. Get into your riding stance with ankles and knees lightly flexed. Now straighten the front knee and ensure the hips remain between the feet and centred. The only way to do that is by letting hip rotation absorb the knee extension, which will also lead to the back knee being pushed towards the front of the board, likely having to flex a bit more, if your rear ankle mobility allows for it. You should now find yourself in a position where your butt is seemingly above the back foot, which is NOT an indication of all your weight having moved backwards!
And always remember: locked out joints can’t absorb terrain! So how much do we really need to straighten the legs?

Carving The Andes group chat with two of our new coaches! @lars.justaride and @good.dude.jesse This is a one of a kind camp and everyone will go away with lifelong new proficiencies on the mountain and be re- invigorated for their love of riding the mountains. Give a listen, and if you want to sign up: check out @carvingtheandes page and get your lodging situated earlier than later (that's one of the hurdles, but it's a hurdle worth overcoming). Paolo and Carol are locals and will help you guide you with the options you're looking for. Your future self will thank you. 🤘😁 🏂✌️
