Well what an evening this was......

I never thought I'd struggle to find words for anything but watching Rupert work a full 5hr shift in a professional kitchen genuinely shut me up.

Rupert was invited to be a part of the kitchen team at the @openfirediningclub event with @phocuekitchen. It was an opportunity for him to see what it's like in a proper kitchen as he is obsessed with food and cooking and I expected him to do a few bits and then maybe sit with me as I was lucky enough to be able to eat the food. Once he was in the kitchen though he wasn't interested in coming out and he worked the full shift. He got stuck in, ate with the team and loved every single minute of it. A moment I just watched in complete awe of how comfortable he looked. Something I am so proud of and a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Thank you so much to @garyweir4 and @ruby.fryman for giving him the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing event with @therealtartuffe and @mcrfinest. It completely solidified his desire and passion to cook and will be an experience he will keep with him forever.

Fire, flavour and beautifully judged simplicity… Oh, and an enormous paella.

Invited by the ever-brilliant @ruby.fryman to @porta_salford ’s collaboration with @openfirediningclub , where ten courses reminded me why it’s still my favourite restaurant in Salford by some distance (maybe Alty too tbf).

Thoughtful cooking, remarkable produce and an unwavering commitment to authentic Spanish cooking, with the equally talented @garyweir4 of @therealtartuffe orchestrating the flames 🔥

@tommysbars poured cocktails with effortless class and skill all afternoon, and it was great to catch up with @benwright1010 and, naturally, spend half of it singing Porta’s praises.

A genuinely beautiful experience all round.

…and I guess @mcrfinest, you did alright too 😘

A WEEK LATER.....

So it's taken me a week to get my head around what happened last Monday.

It was genuinely the best day of my professional life and it truly made me realise how lucky I am to have the right people around.

A collection of the best chefs came together to do a special meal dedicated to me (still sound a mental saying that) and to raise money for The Christie @christiecharity who have helped me and so many others. This amazing group of chefs, sommeliers and front of house superstars gave their time and expertise to support me and this amazing charity. Some of the best suppliers were so generous as well which is unreal.

Despite the overwhelm I felt it was the most special evening with unreal food, paired with exceptional drinks and wonderful service. I will be forever grateful for everyone involved and all the people who came and gave their money for such an amazing cause.

It was a true example of how special the hospitality industry is especially in the North West and also that no matter what the industry is going through we support and care for each other.

I will never forget that night and what those wonderful people did for me.

we headed down to @highergroundmcr on monday for the @thecraftycheeseman_‘s charity dinner and put some of the city’s top chefs on the spot

thanks for letting us be part of the night, it’s was a special one for sure

an unbelievable group of chefs and hospitality professionals came together to raise money for @christiecharity while supporting jonathan through his ongoing cancer journey, it was a reminder of what makes manchester’s hospitality scene so special 💛

Monday night was the most special night in the history of this crazy Crafty Cheese Man business! 🧀

A collection of the most talented, caring and inspiring chefs that the North has to offer came together to produce the best meal I have ever eaten to support myself (Crafty) because of the cancer journey I am going through but most importantly to support and raise money for the wonderful Christie hospital who along with myself have done the most amazing things to help people going through cancer and change their lives for the better.

These wonderful chefs were joined by the most unbelievable group of front of house professionals who created the most special environment along with serving some truly delicious beverages.

This was something I could never have expected or imagined would have been done and I am still overwhelmed by the whole thing and I’m awe of what we witnessed last night.

We witnessed the strength, support and community that hospitality possesses especially in Manchester. It was a beautiful example of why hospitality is so important to this entire country and why it needs everyone’s support.

I will never be able to thank the people involved who gave their time and energy for this unreal event and also to all the lovely people who came down and support the team, myself and The Christie. It is something I will never forget!

We had a great Sunday evening last week over in High Peak, just 20 minutes from Manchester city centre at Open Fire Dining Club. It's a Spring/Summer monthly event organised by the stars at Tartuffe and Manchester's Finest, and the guys put on a wonderful event. Papa Salt Gin was a headline partner, and their product/its general vibe fitted the event and the weather, perfectly.

The event features a roster of different headline Chefs, with a focus on cooking over open fire to make the most of that al fresco setting. This month behind the grills with Gary Weir from Tartuffe was Chef Dan Heffy, who runs the very lovely Nord over in my native Liverpool. Dan has fantastic pedigree with a notable stint at industry legend Frantzen, and his Scouse Pie with a blushing Lamb Chop was truly splendid!

It was great to see the team of Chefs and FoH working their magic up close and personal, with a few familiar faces in attendance to support Dan and Gary, such as the wonderful Dani Heron. The setting is idyllic; a couple of beautifully set tables for around 80 covers in total, providing a full evening of great food and conversation with new friends at that communal table!

A pleasure to head back down to @torrvalemillhighpeak last weekend with @therealtartuffe and @theroyaloak.cartmel for our second @openfirediningclub of the season.

There was Hebridean lamb hanging over the coals, Carlingford oysters grilled on the @biggreenegguk and beautiful produce from the lovely people of @bug_beswick.

For me, the best part of these events is watching strangers become friends during an evening of long table dining and delicious food.

Thanks to everyone who joined us, we’re back at the end of the month with @eatdrinknord ❤️

We turned a Manchester coffeeshop into a Palestinian supper club for one evening and raised £2,033 for @medicalaidpal and @reviving.gaza !! THANK YOU!

To everyone who bought a ticket, donated, volunteered their time, shared a post, brought a friend, or left us a nice comment, thank you. This was only possible because of you.

In a world that often feels disconnected, evenings like this remind us of the power of gathering around a table. Food has always been about more than what’s on the plate - it’s about culture, memory, resistance, and community. And even more special when it’s made by a Palestinian from Gaza. We’d so glad we could create this magical evening together.

A special thank you to @therealtartuffe , @asapcoffeeshop and @pkb_mcr for opening their doors and helping create a space where people could come together in solidarity, and eat delicious food.
