So excited to share photos and videos from our mural painting day yesterday in the Floyd Art Alley. This will be a long post, so get ready! 😂

First a little background. When my husband, Chee, and I started the free little art gallery in the alley, we had larger plans in mind for what the space could become. The alley already had some beloved murals as well as a beautiful garden space created by @earthartstudios_rva. My vision was to build on this with plantings up and down the alley and a series of environmentally-themed murals on approved private spaces. I envisioned the alley as a place for the community to gather, walk and enjoy art in its many forms.

Fast-forward to yesterday when a major part of that vision came to life thanks to neighbors willing to let us paint on their walls and fences, the artistic and mural design talents of Zara @goodforthebees and a community painting day - financially supported by the Museum District Association. Also much appreciation to the Museum District Women’s Club for helping us spread the word.

With lots of generous painting help from neighbors and friends, we finished three beautiful murals in the alley. Each mural depicts a specific theme related to how we interact, affect and are a part of the natural world.

Enjoy the images of a spectacular day yesterday and be sure to come see the murals and visit the gallery in person! Also stay tuned for more information coming about a fun gardening event this Sunday, October 25!

A huge thank you to @magpowers for her article in The Columns about our Free Little Art Gallery and the Floyd Art Alley! I can’t believe it’s been just over a year since we opened! It’s such a source of joy to facilitate the free exchange of art and I’m so excited about what comes next!

Check out the article for more about the gallery and our future plans for the alley - art, murals, gardens and gatherings.

I’m so grateful for the support of @museumdistrictrva and their micro grant program which has allowed us to fund our mural project led by artist @goodforthebees. If you haven’t yet, come by to see the first mural painted near the gallery.

Stay tuned for more info on how to participate in the upcoming mural painting and associated activities- coming soon!

PS- if you see your art in the article, tag it so we know it’s yours! ❤️
