The World Spa & Wellness Awards @worldspawellness were presented in London on 4 October, and this year’s results held a few surprises. Golden Door @thegoldendoor took Spa of the Year for North and South America, and Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island @waldorfastoriaplatteisland was named Worldwide Luxury Hotel and Resort Spa of the Year. What surprised me most was how few of the global hotel giants made the list. Lefay @lefayresorts won twice across two of its Italian resorts, Lapinha Spa @lapinhaspa in Brazil took both Spa Team and Sustainable Spa of the Year, and a bathhouse in Hoxton was named Independent Spa Business of the Year. What the winners share is a clear point of view, and that is something any operator can build, whatever the size of the company behind them. Which result surprised you most? Tell me in the comments, and if you’d like an outside eye on what would put your spa in contention, get in touch below. LOVE IS THE ONLY SUPERPOWER WE HAVE ☮️☯️🫶 And right now, the world needs us to use it. We are living through a crucial moment. People are being pushed to think only of themselves. Cruelty is passed off as strength. Racism and bigotry are still given room to grow. Fascist thinking is creeping back into public life. Too many leaders are fuelling division, and social media has become a cesspit where hatred can spread faster than kindness. We cannot let this become normal. Love is not weakness. It is not silence. It is not standing by while someone is humiliated, excluded or made to feel they do not belong. Love is the courage to speak up, the strength to stand beside someone, and the humanity to care what happens to people beyond ourselves. Love your neighbour. Look after each other. Put jealousy and prejudice aside. Build bridges. Make room for difference. One kind word can steady someone, one brave act can remind them they are not alone. Together, those choices can change the atmosphere around us. And we have to think beyond ourselves. The next generation is watching. They are depending on us to show them that another way is possible, a world with compassion instead of contempt, belonging instead of division, hope instead of fear. They need something to believe in. They need something to live for. So let’s reset. Let’s clean up the cruelty we excuse, the hatred we share and the divisions we keep feeding. Let’s lead with compassion, protect one another’s dignity and give the next generation a reason to believe in humanity. Love can heal what hatred breaks. It can cut through cynicism, bring people together and give courage to those who feel forgotten. It asks us to give deeply, while remembering that care must include ourselves too. We do not need more hate. We need more humanity. We need to stand together. We need to choose love and use it fiercely. Being told you are appreciated is one of the simplest yet most incredible things you can ever hear. I APPRECIATE YOU ♥️

Every square foot of your spa is real estate, yet most spas only ask the treatment rooms to pay their way. The relaxation lounge sits empty between appointments, the boutique waits for someone to wander past on their way out, and reception is somewhere your clients pass through when it could be somewhere they stay. Those are the areas we pay a lot of attention to in an audit, because they’re already built, already lit and already staffed, so getting them to earn costs far less than adding another treatment room. Social events are one of the easiest ways to do it. Think of a monthly book club in the relaxation lounge, or a craft night in the boutique. Picture a quiet Tuesday evening: twelve guests at $45 each, with a glass of fizz and a hand treatment included, brings in $540 from a space that would otherwise have earned nothing that night. The bigger prize is who walks through the door. Many of those guests will be friends of your regulars who have never booked with you, and they leave having seen the space, met your team and tried your products. If you haven’t looked at what each area of your spa earns per square foot, then this is a sign to do it. If you’d like help turning your quieter spaces into revenue, or a deep dive into your P&L, then get in touch below.
