Big news for independent restaurants!

Reps Susie Lee (D-NV) and John McGuire (R-VA) just introduced the bipartisan PROTECT Act, a bill to stop third-party delivery apps from selling restaurants’ food without their permission.

If passed, the bill would:
- Prohibit delivery platforms from arranging orders from a vendor without a partnership agreement
- Require platforms to remove unauthorized listings within 10 calendar days of the vendor’s notification
- Strengthen the FTC’s ability to act by classifying unauthorized listings as “unfair or deceptive acts”

I am SO excited to announce our first pop-up series!! 🍜 This is a community partnership with @wingman_kitchens and @goodworkaustinorg, a nonprofit serving food workers here in Austin. We’re donating 10% of our proceeds to Good Work Austin.

I’ll be honest - I’m equally excited and nervous!! This is our first time running a series like this, so I fully expect there to be learnings along the way. Things might not go smoothly, and that’s okay; that’s part of the process. We’d love your support, and we’d also kindly ask for your grace as we work through it all 🧡

Earlier this week I also had the honor of being invited back by the City of Austin Small Business Division to speak with the newest graduates of the Business Skills Certification Program, where I got to bring in and share my Pad Thai dish, speak about my business journey and promote this very pop-up series. I loved sitting down with Fiore Tedesco (@tedescofiore) the award-winning chef behind @locadoroaustin, a restaurant known for its incredible impact on the community, as much as its food, as the restaurant celebrates 10 years in Austin.

We talk about growing up deaf, his unlikely path to the kitchen, our shared love of tennis (he’s good, I’m not), and a recently discovered side of himself that’s unlocking a whole new understanding of how he communicates and connects.

Food is medicine. And the data proves it. 🩺❤️

@farmshareatx has partnered with @ascensionseton Medical Center to create the “Food is the Best Medicine” program. For 8 weeks, food-insecure postpartum mothers receive fresh produce and prepared meals delivered straight to their doors.

The results?

Postpartum depression rates have gone down. Breastfeeding rates have gone up. Food insecurity is dropping. By delivering food directly to their homes, these mothers can focus entirely on recovering and bonding with their newborns without the stress of securing their next meal.
