what an insane turn of events 😭

I had the wildest time competing in the Organize NYC scavenger hunt. We ran around town while learning about the history of organizing in nyc and completing missions to score points for our team 🏆 There was a live leaderboard and also a live feed on the @goosechase app so we could see everyone’s points and their pictures… it was so funny everyone looked very wet from the rain 😭

We were so excited we made it to the top 100 teams and got to attend the award ceremony. Though @nycmayor mamdani did not make an appearance I had a fun time 🫶🏼

Congrats to the winning teams and thank you to the @nycmayorsoffice & @weorganizenyc for organizing the event!

See you at the next one?

On this episode of Young Hos Get Political, I took my folks on a scavenger hunt to learn about New York’s incredible organizing history.

Huge shout out the Office of Mass Engagement, @weorganizenyc, for getting thousands of New Yorkers out to organize, even on a cold and rainy day.

Scavenger Hunt New York City! 🍎

I signed up for the New York City scavenger hunt lottery last week. Once we were accepted it was go time. Of course it was beautiful weather all week and it rained all day today but I’m a “do what I say I’m gonna do” type of person. Mayor Mamdani had us going all over New York City! We didn’t even make it to Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, or the Bronx. But out of 1440 people we came in 143rd place which means I love you and that’s what our family is about, LOVE. Long day but good day! We earned our no school no work day off tomorrow. Shout out to Eboni @chucktees for joining team Majors.

On this small but mighty green oasis on the largest remaining native wetland in all of Manhattan…

This Climate Week, we gathered in another small and mighty way with a group of around twenty Participants (from the eighty registered) who braved the mist and rain to REBUILD THE WETLAND…

We gathered at the entrance of Swindler Cove / Sherman Creek Park at the top of Manhattan, where the Harlem River goes west, at a site recognized as one the remaining native wetlands in NYC… only 6 feet left at that point.

After 30 years of stewardship and care, this green oasis is now one of our favorite green spaces in NYC. Who said NYC was just a concrete Jungle?

We spent the afternoon moving through our guided walk & scavenger hunt mission by mission hosted by our friends @goosechase (shout out to their many years of support, especially as they are about to host the upcoming @nycmayor Scavenger Hunt this weekend October 11th, featuring people powered organizing in NYC. We’ll be there!).

Expanding our listening with experimental sound installations by @mrmaxkutner made in composition & relationship to the natural soundscape of the park.

Sipping lemongrass tea over a conversation on shifting climate zones, led by Paige Kloss of the Urban Ag team @NYRP in the Riley-Levin Educational Garden, filled with native and international transplant seeds reflecting the local community.

Then, working as a group, bucket by bucket with the cleanest soil in the city from the New York City’s office of Environmental Remediation, we helped stabilize the wetland- creating a new shoreline for the more intensive wave flow from boats, full moons and intense storms.

This is the work of climate preparation: a soft and living shoreline ready to root down when trouble comes.

We give thanks to the many stewards who show up to his work everyday and the many hands that make it possible. Special shout out to Jason Smith, Caio Carneiro and Edwards Santos of NYRP and Chauncy Young of the Harlem River Working Group.

In only a couple of hours, twenty ppl were able to help restore fifty sq feet of stability to the wetland - just imagine what we could do with thousands of eager hands.
