From exploring the Kentucky River, to kayaking underground to standing on top of a natural bridge… we tried to squeeze as much in as we could into what could be our only “good” weather day.
📍Underground Gorge Kayaking 📍Natural Bridge State Park **what you don’t see is me rushing to the porta potty upon arrival…. Yes, I’m still having intestinal issues and I do have an appointment with a specialist, but until then I’m doing everything I can to not let the issues stop me from living my life!!**
Thank you again to all the kind words on my previous post 💖

I’ve traveled so many places, and now I can FINALLY check eastern KY (my home state lol) off my yellow dot/places-to-go Google Maps itinerary (iykyk)… better late than never, and 10/10 will be revisiting.

Friday I spent the evening kayaking in an old mine in Red River Gorge that hasn’t been in operation since the 80s. It was such a cool experience. The two guides were fantastic. They were funny and shared some really interesting facts and stories about the mine. Cold water, dark tunnels, giant rock walls, and the kind of adventure that makes you think this is definitely something I’m going to remember. Kentucky you are pretty damn cool! #exploreky #natureismagic

One thing about me is I will always rep the #redrivergorge while hiking in Germany.

Evan and I have been on many kayaking adventures, but never underground!

The Classic Kayak tour with The Gorge Underground was a fun and relaxing "date night" experience on our Red River Gorge camping trip this weekend. Shoutout to tour guide Spencer for the fun commentary!

🛶 @gorgeunderground

The kayak tour was through a 100 year old limestone mine.

The green light is from their "fish lights" they use to attract the trout they keep stocked in the water. The trout group around the lighted area to be fed. Their presence during the tour was very eerie, but cool! 🐟

I was a little nervous when near the end of the tour our guide asked if anyone was afraid of spiders. "Charlotte" was a Halloween decoration the tour set up in the past, but now she is a permanent resident of the mine and exhibit on the tour. The limestone above Charlotte gave away, breaking off a few of her legs and also trapping her there. It's too dangerous for her to be removed as the rest of the limestone could fall at any given time.

We enjoyed our evening out while our little adventurer stayed back at the campground with his grandparents. 😊💙

Kayaking through a flooded underground mine at Gorge Underground in Red River Gorge, Kentucky 🚣

The mine stays at a constant 55°F year round making it one of the best ways to escape the summer heat in the area — the contrast of paddling from humid Kentucky summer air into a cool dark mine is something you have to experience yourself

The tour runs about an hour and takes you through the flooded tunnels of a historic mine completely by kayak — it’s eerie, peaceful, and genuinely unlike anything else we’ve done

Honest take — absolutely worth doing if you’re already visiting Red River Gorge, but we wouldn’t make a special trip just for this. Pair it with a full RRG weekend and it becomes a really unique addition to an already incredible area 📍

I love kayaking! Went kayaking at a place I’ve always wanted to kayak, “The Underground Gorge” in Kentucky. While on vacation this was a must-do adventure! I love the trout that were placed in the water! It was so cool! My first time kayaking underground!

The guides made this adventure so fun! If you’re ever in Kentucky, you must visit! I didn’t tip over lol! #kayaking #kayak #supkentucky #kentucky #undergroundkayaking
