It’s always a blessing and gratifying feeling to be able to do the work I am passionate about, but being able to show the work at home makes it even more rewarding. We spun the block and brought our film @tyingknotsfilm back to my home - Houston to screen at the @houstoncomedyfilmfestival this past Sunday. We appreciate the laughs, outbursts, talking back to the screen, positive reactions and love that Houston showed us. It’s always a pleasure to see how the people engage and enjoy our story. 🏅 Our story was enjoyed so much that we were a finalist for best Comedy Film! We’re thankful to be recognized amongst a strong and diverse range of stories. BIG shoutout to @roselynomaka for a well ran festival and for always looking out. Thank you to @coachracquel_tv for a great interview! Thank you to the historic @atthedeluxe theatre for hosting us. Of course, Thank you to everyone who showed up on a Sunday morning to rock with us. We appreciate you! 🩵 And to the city that I live in.. the city that I’m from .. HOUSTON, TX - I love you and this native son will continue to make the city proud. 🤘🏾💜 We Thank God for it ALL! The best is yet to come! 🙏🏾

Managing expectations … “being perfect” … Trying to see your worth internally that everyone sees externally .. Trying to define who you are .. Maintaining classroom standards .. All the while with a program on your back to lead to the “promise land” .. The burden of being under a microscope.. always having to be “on” and needing to make the right decision all the time .. especially when you’ll be judged differently .. This is a lot for a 19 year old sophomore. But this is Stephon’s plight and his journey to find a balance between everything that he needs to be for others, while trying to figure out who he needs to be for himself. He feels the weight of the world expecting him to show up flawless, him feeling betrayed by his best friend Dwayne by him deciding not join him on the basketball team, the accountability from his friends that he’s not ready to accept and the skewed point of view he has of his body. These are some of the things that college students deal with on a daily … it’s a lot for a 19 year kid … right? Sometimes who you are now looks different from who you were then, and most people would never guess the full story. @brand.goss built his name as an All-American football player, and today he stands behind the camera as a filmmaker telling the stories of his own community. We met up with him at the iconic @riceboxed known for putting a modern, stylish spin on classic American-Chinese food. Brandon carries culture in everything he creates, with a deep love for HBCUs and a real commitment to showing Black excellence in all its forms. He understands that excellence looks different on every block, in every story, and he makes sure his work reflects that range. He acts, directs, films, and writes compelling stories, including "The College Life." He also starred in "Tying Knots," directed by Holly Charles-Pearson, alongside costar Christal Luster. "Tying Knots" earned a screening at the @bronzelens Festival, a spot in the Houston Comedy Film Festival, a screening at The Hip Hop Film Festival, and a semi-finalist nod at the Cannes International Short Film Festival. Brandon pours directly into the next generation through CoolxFlicks, a program by @coolxdad at Cullen Middle School. He teaches kids how to tell their own stories and represent the community they call home. Brandon owns and runs his own company, Goss Films and Projects. Follow his work and support his vision at @gossfilmsandprojects. We are proud to highlight Brandon as one of the leaders building Houston's film industry infrastructure one project at a time. #colorculture #htx #film #industry

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “AMERICA”? It can be a wide range of ideas.. some good.. some bad. For the students in Dr. Woodson’s class, they express what that means. Some say “money”…”democracy”… “white” but for Dwayne when he thinks of the word America, it makes him think “outsider”. He expresses the feeling of “I don’t belong here” because of the current societal climate and he wants to be in spaces where he feels valued. The discussion pivots … If segregation wasn’t based on the disdain for another group of people based on skin color, discrimination and prejudice - would segregation be a bad thing? Black folks like in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921 better known as “Black Wall Street” flourished with Blacked owned businesses and living.. while being segregated. That was until the city was intentionally bombed by a racist white mob because of hate. Discourse such as this happens daily in HBCU classrooms. This is one of the things that makes the HBCU experience like no other, the free expression of thought cultivated by critical thinking to challenge the status quo. “There’s a unique buzz of energy that an HBCU campus delivers at the start of a new school year - it’s just DIFFERENT.” The HBCU experience is second to none. From the sense of pride in culture, to the establishment of community, to honoring the legacy of those who paved the way for us, and to the ones who are keen on building a brighter future - HBCU truly is HOME. That was my goal with this beautiful opening shot of the oldest school in Austin, TX, the HBCU @hustontillotsonuniversity . I wanted to make it big visually to represent the big impact HBUCs have, and to give a sense of the home-like atmosphere HBCUs give. No matter what HBCU you attend - big school, small school, private institution or public university, remember you can always return home. @gossfilmsandprojects presents: “The College Life” 📚✏️🎓 Logline: A group of friends from various walks of life that have spent a year in college forging an unbreakable bond, continue to set their sights on conquering the campus from the first day of class to final exams, but the HBCU experience can be exhilarating with its complications. This particular story is near and dear to my heart. I’ve been working on this story since 2017, I created this in 2024 as my proof of concept to serve as my pitch to the world that this story is imperative to tell and that I am more than capable of telling it the right way. But I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do it without my creative family which I’m forever indebted. I Thank God for his continued unprecedented favor towards this project, it’s nothing short of amazing. I must give a HUGE shoutout and THANK YOU to Huston-Tillotson University (@hustontillotsonuniversity). Thank you School President/CEO Dr. Melva K. Wallace (@mkwthe7th) for opening up your campus to a fellow HBCU Grad from a rival school lol, thank you to Dr. Shaquille Dillion (@dapperdillon) , Ms. Asia Haney (@asia.elan4), Head of Security Mr. Leslie York and the HTU student body for embracing us, we hope we showcased the beauty of this prestigious HBCU. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to watch it. Share with someone you think should see it, tag whoever should be put on notice and watch it over and over. I made this FOR YOU, so I hope you enjoy it. The best is yet to come. All Glory to God.
