In November of 2023 I asked my two older sisters if they’d be willing to be interviewed for a documentary about their mother who passed away when they were kids. I wanted to shed light on a topic I think is incredibly important, and my sisters being two of the strongest women in my life agreed to help me tell their mother Bonnie’s story. That December we filmed my Documentary, “You Are My Sunshine”, a 15 minute long documentary on suicide prevention, and the effects suicide has on families, friends, and communities.

In July, I found out our film was selected to play in the All American High School Film Festival in Times Square. My siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, and family friends came to New York with me to watch the screening. It was the most proud I’ve ever been of my sisters, their vulnerability and authenticity brought everyone to tears.

Just when I thought I couldn’t get any more proud, I found out some incredible news that I am very excited to share with you all. “You Are My Sunshine” came in first place in the New England Emmy’s Student Production awards, winning in the High School Non Fiction Long Form category. This project is the most important thing I’ve ever created. It took me 2 months to edit, and while the process was hard, I am so incredibly proud of how beautiful it came out. While it will not be posted to socials, I want to highlight this very exciting moment for my sisters and I, and how proud I am of them!

On this day, I wish Bonnie a beautiful Mother’s Day, and I know she is looking down on Brooke and Danielle with the biggest smile, this film boils down to her and her alone, and I hope she is proud all the people her story is touching!

Hold your loved ones close, check in on one another, and remember that no matter how hard things may seem, they always get better, and life will always be better with you in it.

I love you Brooke and Nellie, thank you for trusting me ❤️
