Landscape of Mothers is growing! What began as a book that I wrote to help myself parent my children in healthier and more supportive ways now includes The Inner Mother Deck! This is a hand-drawn deck of 72 cards… some of the best questions I’ve asked myself in the last 10 years. This deck has been grounded and blessed by community, with love and deep care. I’m grateful for this journey, it’s healed so much in me around belonging. 💗

I hope you can enjoy the deck too! It’s on my website (through my bio) for sale and nowhere else! May the blessing of it all ripple far and wide 🌊🌎✨🌱

In the past couple of days I have received the most light filled kindness from friends and beloved ones.

I am not going to hide it. I have had a hard week - struggling to get out of bed and keep moving forward. This morning I received this blessed envelope of light from the dear @gracedeb1.

I had lost my saint Brigids ribbon that she sent me back in February to the tornado. She had kept one aside just in case. Today it arrived along with the words “you can begin again”. And so many other pieces of encouragement and comfort.

I needed this so much.

Never underestimate the power of an act of loving kindness. The world feels like it is falling apart right now but there is still love at work in this world. And it is more powerful than anything else.

How are you, really?
In Alternative Answers to ‘Fine,’ we’re exploring honest emotions found in both the Scriptures and ourselves.

Our fourth one is this: I’m keeping hope alive - Psalm 77:14 (Voice Translation).

I recently led a small group of contemplative women through an exercise with Humpty Dumpty.

We named it: The Rending & the Reimagining.

We spoke of our lives, like Humpty Dumpty’s, upended and rended. Spoke of the falling down and falling apart. Of what we couldn’t put back together again.

We cut egg shapes out of card stock and, in each other’s presence, tore them to pieces.

And then we waited.
For a week, we waited.
There, with the broken.

Yesterday, we and all our precious pieces came together. We sat in the presence of one another and of our creative God and we asked for vision for what was to become of all the broken.

And oh.my.goodness!!!

We each took our pieces, held them up to love and to light, and then, with Divine inspiration, began to create. It was marvelous. It was holy. It was astonishingly beautiful. It was full of surprises, and above all, it was hopeful. So very, very hopeful.

Richard Rohr said, "The promise of Lent is that something will be born of the ruin, something so astoundingly better than the present moment we cannot imagine it."

We agree, and it is helping to keep our hope alive.

The hero’s quest has a big U-turn (often several) that unwittingly brings us back to ourselves. Thanks be that the search for God and the search for Self are mutually intertwined in a state of embrace. Self reflection and discovery are holy journeys.
♥️
I give thanks to the Holy Mother for this loving wisdom and to teachers past (Fr. Jose Fetzer and Dean Bernard Mayes), teachers present, @elisabeth_fuchs_ with her folktales at the kitchen table and all the women who gather there virtually on Monday’s, and to teachers I’ve only met in books (Thomas Merton, John O’Donahue, Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes and Mary Oliver to name a few).
♥️
In some way, I hope today holds a moment where you can see what a miracle worth exploring you are and how that inner spiritual adventure leads us to each other with compassion.

Such an unexpected, Joy-filled way to spend a day - hugging a dear sister and catching up with her and her family, all while hanging out at their beautiful rental cabin in the NC mountains.

Setting my Intention for May
I've always loved that my birthday is in May (I'll be 53 on the 18th). Alongside the joy, pockets of tenderness also tend to be tucked in this month. I know this is simply the sweet little girl who lives inside my heart longing for a little bit more reassurance, healing, and love. I want to be present, as best I can in each moment, to both her and the adult me as we continue to find our special way of partnering in this dance of life together. ♥

I intend to gift myself with good self-care this month by staying close to the photo prompts. Not only do I enjoy how this exercise helps me to connect with myself and my world in a gently curious way, I *love* our focus of looking for beauty in the everyday!

I'll also continue to practice, she adds with a soft smile, being just fine if there are a lot of selfies sprinkled in. Perhaps I'll stretch a bit by nudging myself to find beauty in the aching grief that may arise. Over the years I've come to really appreciate how photographing myself is a powerful way for me to truly see myself *and!* a very nourishing way to water my soul. (Hmmm... noticing, joining, and participating in my own life feeds me, imagine that! 😉) #handtohearteverydaybeauty
